Sick Of Some Of These Shark Fans

f**k me, I love the Sharks, but these guys are getting paid up to half a million a year to catch a ball.

And when they dont catch a ball, what can you do? We can't fire em, but at least we can blast the sh*t outta them. Its just like if youre an ice cream seller, and your ice creams start to taste like sh*t, loyal buyers will still support the business, but theyll give you sh*t for giving them food poisoning.

Thats what I think anyhoo.

When you see someone like Dan Nutley, an old man in regards to league, bust his balls every week and then someone like Keith Galloway, who has the potential to be anything,
play below his potential week in and week out, and then take some big money to go to the tigers...I think we are allowed to get on here, a forum, and let our feelings be known.
It is a well known fact the coach plays favourites, which you know, he is allowed to do,
some may pay off and some may not...I think if the club in its entire being, had the passion most of us have on this forum, we'd still be competing in this weekend's finals.

i love my kids but that doesnt mean I dont let them know when they aren't doing the right thing....

We are all long suffering supporters....and what $hark$ has failed to see (largely due to the poor performances that have been dished up lately) is the praise that also comes along to the players when they earn it.

You can sit around and believe the "Lets support and be positive of our teams efforts" all you like.....but in the end , sooner or later you too will get tired of accepting below par results.

We all crave the same thing.....so join us in what ever way you feel fluffiest.

I'm not a Cronulla fan or anything, just browsing through and I didn't read the other posts so sorry if I repeat something already said, but I'll never understand why people think that criticising a team means you do not support it.

It's simple really, for a player, rugby league is a game. They get paid to do it. Obviously most players are very passionate about their work, and it means more to them then just a job. But there are plenty of other professions in which people are very passionate about their work and it means more than just a job. (How do you compare the thrill of winning a grand final to giving a child the gift of being able to read and write?) So while it may mean more than just a pay check it is still a job.

So unlike a player who gets a return from their club and their game, a fan makes an investment in football. They invest their money, quite a bit of it in fact, to support a team. They invest their time, quite a bit of it in fact, to support a team. And they invest their passion in the team.

So while a player recieves a return from each game whether she or he wins or loses, a fan, who has made an investment as a supporter does not.

So given that the fan is investing something as a supporter, while the player is just doing their job, shouldn't the fan be able to criticise the players?

But, I hear people say, the player is doing their job for the benefit of the fan, they're job entertains the fan, why should the fan be upset?

Well let's go back to the teacher comparison. The teacher like the player is doing their job for the benefit of someone else. (The teacher for the student, the player for the fan) Just because they're working for someone elses benefit doesn't mean they should be free from criticism. Teachers work their backsides off for their students but if they aren't working up to standard the teacher is going to be criticised. The player works their backside off for their fans but if they aren't performing they're going to be criticised.

Of course any criticism levelled at players or a club or administration needs to be constructive or justified, other wise there's no point. And it needs to be matched by the proper support when the player or club or administration does things well (Sharks fans have shown they're capable of this by the very healthy home crowd average the Sharks achieved this year)

And of course, this doesn't mean you're only happy when the side wins, and you get angry when it loses. Being a fan is about more than winning and losing. But when a fan makes an investment as a supporter of a club, they expect that the club will reward that investment with a performance that makes them proud. That can easily be achieved even during a flogging, if when the last hit ups of the game is made that players are still running hard and trying their best.

But if a club or player or whatever just drops its bundle for no reason, or doesn't seem to be trying as hard, or something similar, why can't a fan make a constructive criticism. They're the ones making the investment, not the other way around.

I think it's simple what goes wrong with some supporters. Too many people are just sick of losing.
Each year, no matter who the coach is, after a few losses, there's the feeling amongst the fans of "here we go again". Look at this year - a great start to the season saw us coming second, then a few losses on the trot and a fair few "fans" are calling for the coaches head.
I think the problem is mainly with the older fans. It seems like the older they are the more cynical them become. I don't know what some of you expect but with ANY coach coming in, it's unlikely he (or she) will bring a premiership in the following 2 or 3 seasons(but hopefully not for us next year). There seems a feeling amongst the guys that have been around for a while that the situation is hopeless, something along the lines of "Raper's already had his shot, get him out and give the next guy a go".

It's simple - we need stability and need to give Raper a shot for at least another 2 seasons.

Personally I like what he has done with the squad for next season. I know we've lost Peach and Stevens, but at least the players who lack heart have farked off.

Bring on 2006 and give the coaching staff a fair go. If it hadn't have been for a few shocking decisions in the Dragons game we would still be in it.

Fair enough but if they didn't have heart, why weren't they f**ked off halfway through the year.

The fact they left anyway isin't from any master stroke of the Coach either. If he had his way they would all still be there!

Lomu got the chop midway through the season. Merritt was a good acquisition for the premier league team so that's probably why they held on to him.
God knows why we still have Isemonger in the squad - cant he go to England?

Where I disagree with you on this point, if you're team doesn't do too well at the start and they struggle, then through alot of grit and determination they finish the season on a high note with some wins, you can really appreciate the effort given by the team, because basically they didn't perform miracles, but when the back was against the wall, they dug deep and put in and performed. Obvious examples of this would be Souths and Newcastle this year.

On the other hand, when your side is coming second until mid season, it takes more than a fluke to be in that position. It could be just an anomaly if your team is leading after three or four rounds, but when it's consistently performing for half a season you know it's doing something right.

Then when the side all of the sudden drops its bundle it's hard to say, "Oh well, they still finished 7th and made the finals, that's still an achievement". Because you know that 7th position for a side that was capable of and in a position to finish in the top 4 isn't that much of an achievement. By being at the top of the comp at the half way point you know the side can match it with the best. So to fall from grace so dramatically something has gone wrong and the club has been unable to fix it by the end of the season.

When a team shows that it has the ability to be around the top of the comp, and at the end of the season it isn't, you have to start asking why. Obviously something has gone wrong.

On the other hand when your team looked like it was going to win the wooden spoon but it struggled hard at the end and avoided that wooden spoon, it's probably over achieved.

But if another club looked on track for a top four finish and then finished down the bottom of the 8 it's underachieved and although it finished much better than the team that over achieved, the pain can often be even more bitter.

(Please don't take my post the wrong way, I'm not trying to troll and tear into a team I don't support, I'm just trying to use the Sharks as an example for a more general discussion. I'm sure you don't want to hear an opposition fan coming into your forum ranting and raving that your team underachieved.)
