One of the reasons Lomax stated for leaving us was because he didnt want to play wing, he saw himself as a centre.
Round 10 and now he’s a winger at Parra.
One of the reasons Ben Hunt stated he didn’t want to play hooker was because he saw himself as a half at club level and was only happy to play hooker at rep level.
Round 10 he’ll now be a hooker for Broncos.
One of the reasons Liddles manager has stated he may sign elsewhere is because he wants to play longer minutes, ie a starting hooker.
I’ll bet my left nut if he signs elsewhere he will be playing bench utility by Round 10.
What rubbish.

Zac said many times he was happy playing any position, he wasn't happy that his contract talks with us took so long over the pre season. In the end he decided the Eels were a better prospect for his future plans.

Flanagan never once suggested Hunt should play hooker, if you can point me to where he did, please do mate?
Hunt just got sick of being flamed for the inept team performances and being belittled by the coach.

The fact both players took substantial pay cuts to leave this sinking ship should speak volumes, there was a lot more to both than just which position they played in and that's very well recorded in media.

Contract talks? He wasn't even off contract he was signed with us until the end of 2026.

The key lies in the delivery; as the examples above illustrate, the message is ultimately accepted
at different clubs.

I do not enjoy admitting this.

I would rather say that they are all twats. I think I can say that Bunt is the biggest PITA, and Lomax is a little petulant. But Liddle is pretty solid and doesn't strike me as hard work. Anyway, I do hope we keep him.

Who is in charge of talking to these players to try to retain them?
Whoever it is needs to attend an intense influencing workshop, as whatever they're doing isn't working.
It will be all about the $$$$$

Liddle can play 80 mins but at what value compared to his limited minutes impact?

If other coaches/clubs value Liddle higher than an impact player then what do you do?
Everyone, including me. is screaming for Liddle to be re-signed

Everyone is also in agreement his best attribute is his impact over around 60 mins

What "overs" in contract are acceptable for a player of his quality - on the bench?

A very difficult equation
A bloody tough decision

No matter what, coach will be in the wrong
What a job!

You always grab every scenario and somehow make up shit to make it Flanno's fault. So much speculation in your above comment. You don't know shit about their negotiations and their thoughts, yet you sing it from the rooftops and try and sell it as gospel. Stop making shit up.

It is tough, we cant be pushed around by players and their managers but at the same time we cant keep losing our most talented.
It is a sign that the culture isnt strong when players are constantly agitating for more coin, more minutes, less travel commute, the list goes on.
This one is just as frustrating as the Lomax one, a player who's on fire in his current role wanting to be given a different role. Its a big problem for Flano and as you say, one he cannot win.

It's an even more damning sign that culture isn't strong when our best players are taking pay cuts to get out of their contracts with us and go play elsewhere!

Culture is certainly something that needs to be improved and your man the drug cheat clearly isn't doing it or these players would still be here.

I want to see the link.... Please, I am really curious that he may have been renegotiating a contract where he was already signed for 3 years in the future.
There is none he told me to my research little does he know I am fully across everything when it comes to player rumours etc haha

I wouldn't be using Liddle for 80 mins, but there's no doubt he's the better 9 as things currently stand.

It's no coincidence that we finally looked better with Liddle at 9 and Cook at 13. I would let Cook start the first 20 at 9 with Stewart at 13, then Liddle on, prop off, Stewart to Prop, Cook to 13 and Liddle to 9

That was last season for Lomax and Hunt. However, neither actually got less. They would have got TPAs to make up the difference. Who else has left for less since Hunt and Lomax. Please don't say Molo......

"LIDDLE MAY LEAVE DRAGONS OVER LACK OF GAME TIME

The Dragons may be about to pay the price for giving hooker Jacob Liddle limited game time, with no guarantees that he will remain with the club.

Liddle has an option to stay with the joint venture in 2026, but given that he has been demoted to a bench role in 2025, with the arrival of Damien Cook from the Rabbitohs, he may look to continue his career elsewhere next year.

While Liddle has only played more than 40 minutes of a game just three times this season, he has still managed to score six tries in his 10 games in 2025.

Liddle’s manager Gavin Orr told Wide World of Sports’ The Mole that the situation is being monitored.

“Jacob is happy at the Dragons but obviously would like to start games and have more match time,” Orr said.

“We will see how things play out.”

With the Cowboys to lose Reece Robson to the Roosters in 2026, they may make a play for Liddle, who earned Prime Minister’s XIII selection in 2024.

The 28-year-old has played 54 games for St George Illawarra after switching from the Wests Tigers."

Above is from FoxSports writer.

I haven't thought of the Cowboys, but yes if they are losing Robson to the Roosters next year, they might try their luck and get Liddle to replace Robson.

Come on whoever is in charge of recruitment at the Dragons extend Liddle's contract with the Red V and Flanno needs to give him at least 60 minutes of game time.

I don't think it will happen this way David.
If Flano thinks that his best role for the team is smaller minutes off the bench to maximise his impact, then thats how he's going to play him. And why shouldnt he I say? Hes having real impact being used that way.
I just cant see Flano saying OK, you're the starting hooker now because we don't want you to leave.
Its up to Flano to convince him that bench utility is best for the team at the moment, if he cant sell him that message then thats a real shame because he'll leave.
But I doubt he starts him.
