How dumb is this guy?

I was watching the cricket show yesterday and the bloke can't even get words out of his mouth.

He says nothing insightful and he knows nothing more than anyone who posts in this forum.

Worst commentator of any sport in Australia.

Easily. I thought everyone had known this for 4 or 5 years, but Channel 9 keeps hiring him.

Anyway, I read somewhere a few weeks ago that he was under a lot of pressure from the execs at 9 because the audience found him too stale and boring.

Since then he has spiced up his performances by wearing a hat. :)

How the hell did O'Donnell get a job with nine?

Must be good mates with Kerry Packer.

he used to commentate when 9 had rights to a few of the big races like the Cox Plate seeing he knows a fair bit about that.

Simon "Scoob" O'Donnell.

His nickname comes from an incident with an "illegal" substance when he was playing 1sts for St Kilda AFL and playing for Prahran/Victoria.

Hugely talented sportsman across several sports.

As one of Kerry Packers breakaways in the 80's he is guarateed a job with nine as long as KP has breath in his body or people have kidneys to donate.

V V loyal to those who "came across" is KP so don't expect any changes.

Someone must have a cricketer they know. Ask anyone what O'donnells nickname is.

it was a different time back then-not so "politically correct".

Let's just say most people "inhaled" at one time or another.

It was a great can from the boys that just stuck.

Whiz is a shocker. He'll be laughing his head off and go "There's no way thats a try".... ball put down cleanly over the line "I'm telling you, I don't care what those TV pictures show, I'm telling you no way its a try."

Sorry for the bump, but when I saw this thread I just had to post this link. Those who were anti-O'Donnell will be happy to read this:

CHANNEL 9 has parted ways with sports commentator Simon O'Donnell after 25 years. O'Donnell, a former Test cricketer and St Kilda footballer, said yesterday that he was a victim of the network's salary cap.

Describing it as a sad day, he said he had great memories of his work with Nine, which started with a sports segment on Ray Martin's Midday Show.
O'Donnell was a cricket commentator for Nine, covered football and thrived in the network's Spring Carnival racing coverage.
He replaced James Brayshaw this year as host of The Sunday Footy Show.
"There was no room in the salary cap for me," O'Donnell said.
"We put a lot of commitment into the racing, but Nine don't want to be long-term players in it and that's the saddest part.
"We need racing on free-to-air television but I don't think there is the money in it for them and it's sad at the end of the day."
O'Donnell, who races and breeds horses, said he'd always had frank discussions with the network.
"And they've continued and it's a healthy way to have it," he said.
