Slater

Some people think I am crazy, but I actually cheer when I see this myths name at fullback,

For all the hype around the bloke, in a big match in a tight situation, you can always count on him for a massive error, and last night proved that yet again

I loved the way they spliced in footage of his 2008 World Cup blunder during the coverage too

Yeah hahaha. When he dropped that ball that was exactly what was running through my mind, obviously I wasn't the only one.

Ray Warren seriously can't stop saying enough about the bloke. He's the best ever fullback evidently. Why then did he have such a problem usurping Karmichael Hunt for Australia? I can't believe he's in the running for the Golden Boot. For mine he had an average year. Teams are chasing down on in him in straight lines so much better. And, again, when a big international game is on the line, Billy Slater is an epic fail.

he's still living off that try for queensland five years ago. after the cap scandal broke, he seemed to stop trying.

the only time i've been happy to see matai in a kiwi jersey was when he smashed him in the anzac test, and that cost us a try and the game so yeah.

i'll give gould credit. during the '08 final while all the other commentators tried to justify his inane actions, gould was scathing of him

And last night, when Billy dropped that bomb, all Gould had to say was 'i think he was planning on running 100 meters for a try.'

I think some of you blokes are kidding yourselves, Slater probably didn't have his best year for the Storm this year (a lot of them clocked off to be fair, he went a lot better than Inglis or Blair) but over the last 4 or 5 years his consistent excellence has been amazing.

I don't necessarily believe that he is the most physically talented fullback running around (his ball skills are ordinary and his speed is massively overstated) but he has tremendous attacking instincts.

At the end of the day he has made two massive errors in international football which he will struggle to live down. Having said that, fullbacks drop those sort of awkward bombs all the time. It certainly wasn't as bad as Hohaia's error, just happened later in the game.

Lets just see if that straight out through the hands drop, with no pressure on him whatsoever, is repeated ad nauseum by the Aussie Cheerleaders who delight on still bringing up Manus 'horror game' for years.
There are two out and out brain explosions by this guy in huge games, when it comes to the crunch, that get neatly forgotten and only bought up during yet another massive mistake by the guy in a big game.
IMO a player regarded as worlds best in a position is as much about what they don't do, as much as what they do

To be fair I think that's done and dusted. They did go on forever about it, but it's more or less over now.

...But still bought up on the occasions Manu might fumble. Lets see if Slaters past will be bought up again, again, again...etc.

While we're on the subject of Slater, we can talk about the grub's sliding defence, sprigs first on his tryline. The Darling of the NRL got away with it for ages before being spoken to, and that was only the tenderist of handsmacks.

But I agree with BH, when we're playing Aussie I like him there as for the good he may do, if it's a big game you can rely on a mega clunker as well to help us out.

Didn't he win the clive churchhill medal and win 2/3 GF's with melbourne???? OK in 2 INTERNATIONAL's he choked but he one of the first damn players I would pick for my NRL team O_O That is many many finals matches where he did not indeed choke.

WE DIDN'T ACTUALLY SCORE FROM HIS KNOCK-ON DIRECTLY, NO LESS THAN AUSSIE SCORED FROM MAUTALINO'S BUMBLED PLAY THE BALL

He was better than Hohaia who had a very average game, and DIRECTLY cost us a try.

Really? You cheer? You're full of sh*t! Tell me how his dropped bomb had anything to do with Benji's last play?
Going by your name, you're a Manly fan yes?

The Churchill Medal was a farce, he wasn't even in the Storms best 5 that day.

But while we talk of that Grand Final, how about when Parra are applying a bit of pressure, Billy drops a bomb and Parra score and get right back into the game

Or we could talk of the errors made in Origin games which cost him his starting spot for a few years

Whether we scored directly from it or not is irrelevant, the pressure was on, and he found a big error, again. If he takes that bomb, Australia run some more time of the clock and advance the ball to the other end of the paddock and the Kiwis aren't applying pressure to the line

You may think I am full of sh*t, but I have a workmate on here who will back up what I say about Slater being selected in Australian sides

Who said it had anything to do with the last play ?

Correct detective, Well spotted, I support Manly. You support the Storm ?

...Does that include the GFs that were stripped off them for cheating?:sarcasm:

Thats a good question though...shouldn't the CC medal be returned as well?!

IMO he's a good player, but not the 'walk on water' one claimed when all the commentators are utterly creaming over him. And excuses used for his out and out brain explosions are pitiful.
I personally aren't a Manly fan, but their fullback Stewart or Hayne I would be more worried about if the Kiwis were facing. Perhaps it's the physical nature of the internationals that rattles Slater...something he doesn't face in either NRL or SOO, which is more sanitised nowadays.

I reckon it should, was won under false pretences.

I dont think the Storm players should have been allowed in internaationals either..
