I watched the oscars tonight and saw the lifetime achievement awards segment. It made me think that Sly should get one one day.
I know he is probably the most mocked actor in the history of cinema. I know that most of his work does not have good acting (Rocky, First Blood, Copland exceptions). But, the guy has entertained a lot of people with his work.
Movies are all about entertainment. Under that criteria, Stallone probably has entertained more people than any other actor in history. The silent majority of fans love what he was brought to the action movie genre.

What do you think?

I agree with everything except that. I believe (and am open to debate) that that honour belongs to one Arnold Schwarzenneger.

But I agree - he has always entertained me, even when he played Ed Deline's brother in "Las Vegas".

he won an oscar for rocky didnt he?

Rocky definately won the best picture Oscar.
Think the director got the Oscar too(they normally do) but dont think it was Stallone-sorry cant remember who it was though.
99.9 % sure Stallone wrote the story/screenplay whatever.
Doubt Sly won any Oscars for his acting but no doubt his singing is worst.
What film was it he attempted to sing?

Stop! Or my mom will shoot.

I believe Sly totally regrets making that film. Not that I've ever seen it (or will given the panning it received).

The Razzies named Stallone the worst actor ever (or someething like that) a couple of years ago.

Correct.

Sly directed Rocky II-IV & Rocky Balboa.

He wrote:
- The Rocky series
- Rambo series
- Cobra
- Cliffhanger

And a number of others but they were essentially crap.

He has never won an oscar (although was nominated for best actor and original screenplay for Rocky)

He has taken out dozens of Razzie awards, including worst actor of the decade in the 80s, and worst actor of the century

I think it's unfair to label Stallone worst actor of any time period in which Paul Walker and Jean Claude Van Dam were releasing movies.

stallone has more talent that he is given credit for. Anyone who writes an oscar nominated screenplay that also wins best picture has some talent.

interestingly , one of his next projects is writing/directing a movie about Edgar Alan Poe.

Apparently he wrote it way back in the 70's and it looks like it will get made.

I'll see them and raise you Dolph Lundgren ans Steven Seagal. Sly is nowhere near worst.

I think it is a dead heat between Stallone and Arnie.

Stallone is a better actor than Arnold, but Arnold would probably have bigger screen presence.

Stallone created two legend characters, Arnold created one.

Arnold has had more hits than Stallone.

Arnie should get a lifetime achievement award as well. Wooden actor, but has entertained just about every person on the planet in at least one movie.

Stuff other wooden actors like Costner, Van Damme etc.

I agree mate, even in lesser known movies like that truck driver arm wrestling champ in " Over the Top " he was entertaining. Even Tango and cash was watchable.

Arnie takes the cake for worst actor of all time though. How many words did he have in " conan the barbitute " anyway. Three if you don't count the ugg by memory. ( Seriously watch it and count, I think three was giving him a few too many ).

" f**k he is perfect for the part, look at those biceps, but for f**k sake just don't et him speak." LOL......

He was so bad he had to turn from Hollywood actor to second tier state leader in the actor/bullshart scales.

Claude "The coke/snort " Dam.Now there is an acting genius. LOL....

LOL....

Reminded me of Seagal then. Fighting ability alone. Stallone has much more than that.

Yeah but Arnie, as bad as he was on screen, did have charisma - when he churned out those one-liners, you marked out!

But yeah - go Sly.

And Steven Segal was an arse-kicking machine - how could you possibly hate him?

Dont hate him. He actually reminded me of my teenage girlfriends dad back in the 1980's, with a cross of that large " BULL " from the nightcourt show. Scary sh*t. LMAO.

Stallone is an entertainer though. I have seen most of his movies. He is no where in my top list of " Actors " as such, but a great entertainer. A lot of people I reckon saw him in Rocky 1 ( when he was actually playing a dead head from the back streets ) assumed he was dumb in real life ( a reflection of how convincing he was at the part ) and then never watched him again., Forming an opinion too early. Overall and having watched most of his movies, I reckon he deserves the award.
