Former Australian test star Jason Smith 31 believes that reacurring injuries and a batterd bodie will finish his carrer after SL IX, surley this can't be a good thing for Hull but there is a positive.

With the pace of the RSL increasing 10 fold every season the speed of the game in England is now stating to show on the older brigade pushing them out of the game much earlier leaving far more oppertunities for the young British stars of tommorow.

10 fold every year?

maybe not quite that fast but you get the point, since the inception of full time profesionalism RL in the U.K. has hardly taken a backward step.

Arghhh. Don't do that. I thought you meant that Rusty was putting away his whistle. Ahh well, I can live in hope.

As for Jase, it has been an honour and a privilege to have him in our team at Hull. For single-handedly destroying Leeds last year at the Boulevard he'sll forever be a legend with the black n whites. It's a shame to see him hang up his boots but after the season he's just had I can't say I blame him for saying 'one more and I'm done'. I'm hoping he has a cracking final season before handing things over to young Captain Cooke.

Smithy had a resonable first season but i got the impression that he thought that he believed he was hull fc and at times does things that are
not best for the team when we needed him to live upto his world class billing.
Jason always tried to do everything himself despite there being other quality ball players in the side,i recon and id do the same that he is only sticking around for what will be another big pay cheque this season when i dont think he will prove to be good value for money.

Smith and dymock were classed by alot of people as the 2 most over rated players in the ARL. However I've heard smiths been one of the best in the england comp. I guess it doesn't say much for England superleague.

As a long standing Hull supporter I couldn`t agree more . The younger players seemed to blossom far more when Smith was out injured . Definitely NOT a legend .

I always thought JS was one of the best talents Qld has produced. He left for England before he had established himself as one of the genuine superstars of the NRL, but I think he would have if he had stayed.

About 10 years ago in a semi-final against the Raiders, he charged the tryline and Big Mal hit him with a thunderous tackle. Fair dinkum, it would have knocked most other guys senseless, but Smith absorbed the full force, stood in the tackle, held Mal at arm's length and popped a one-handed offload to someone wrapping round who went onto score. It's hard to describe just how hard Mal hit him you had to be there to believe it, but the moment lives in my memory as testament to JS's skill and toughness. A shame he was lost to the Aussie game for the best years of his career. He would have filled out my Qld Origin backrow with Bob Lindner and Raging Bull nicely.

Jason Smith is a top player who could control a game. I was not happy when he left the eels. He's had a great career and I which him all the best.
