Snowden to retire

The article is correct in saying he failed to live up to expectations at Newcastle.

But let me say it is absolutely heart breaking the number of Novacastrian players we have had to farewell wearing suits. I wonder if McManus will do likewise this year.

That sucks....

I didnt want him in this team anymore, but i figured he'd head to England and carve them up for a few years.

Shame to end on such a low.

The guy has made a heap playing a game he used to play for the fun of it.

He should think himself lucky.

Shame for him personally, but credit to him for calling it early, helps the club.

Must be some sort of record for the amount of players we lose this way.

We wish him well.

I remember roopy used to talk Snowden up to be the next best forward ever and how he used to belt SBW in under 20s. He never reached those heights and may have grown too big.

He's had his patches of good form, his best years were with the Sharks.

All the best to him in the future. Shame it had to end this way, but as mentioned above, we're really accustomed to it aren't we :(

McManus isn't medically retired this year so his payment is in the cap. I seriously thought he'd retire last year and get a send-off at our last home game.
Maybe he just wants to see it out and see what happens but this period of time is way too long. http://www.newcastleknights.com.au/news/2016/02/02/mcmanus_sidelined_in.html says he is sitting out 2016 and working through his options.

I get a suspicion there may be more to it based on Brown's comments about the concussion rule. he mentioned along the lines that 'after McManus ...we were following the rule to the full extent.' He also mentioned liability.

Maybe there is more to McManus's injury - I hope not. We haven't heard anything about or from him for a while and he isn't on the injury list.

Possibly there is a question of liability.

I'd just like to see him get a decent and well-deserved send-off with the bagpipes blowing.

So thats 400k we get to spend for our 2017 roster. If macmanus does medically retire we are looking at 6 - 700k to spend on next season.

McManus isn't contracted for 2017, he is cap exempt for 2016, and the money was already spent as they knew he wasn't playing this year.

I thought his money this year would only be exempt if he was forced into retirement before round 1, but he's still not officially retired. So as far as I know he's still on the cap
