So much better than 1 v 8

Souths won 3 more games Than Canbrra, with a 100 point beter differential. Their reward? A tough away game, compared to an easier home game for Canberra. How is that fair?

As a souffs fan I'm much happier with this system, yes we had to go to Melbourne but it's worked out pretty well..

The WORST case scenario for a top 4 team in week one is a home final in week 2. The BEST case for a 5-8 team is an away final in week 2.

The fact is with either finals system, you need to win from week 2 onwards to advance.
Both have their interesting points and potential matchups, but the fact remains: play what is in front of you to win, not "moan about what could have been a supposed advantage under the alternate system".

Souths are playing for a week off, and get a second chance against a lower placed team at their own home ground.

Raiders are playing sudden death and must play a top four team away from home in week two to advance.

That seems pretty fair.

Bottom line is, if your team is good enough they'll win.

under the old system they could have been potentially knocked out in wk1 by the same fixture atleast now there in wk2 playing for a spot in a qualifier.

they didnt finish 1st or 2nd, yet have equal opportunity to make the GF qualifier. how many opportunities/chances do you think they deserve?

mcintyre week 1
dogs v broncos
melbourne v sharks
souths v raiders
manly v cowboys

if all of the favourites won;
mcintyre week 2
souths v cowboys
manly v raiders

so even though souths and manly won in week 1, raiders and cowboys lost, the raiders and cows still get a second chance. there is no advantage to souths or manly playing these week 1 games. i can't believe any fan of a top 4 team would prefer mcintyre.
