Is it just me or does it get on your nerves that so many players wear their socks down in our side? To me It's like thier not proud to wear our colours... Thoughts?
There's actually a practical reason for it that has been known to professional footballers since day 1.
Below is an excerpt from a book written in 1964 entitled 'How To Play Rugby League'. It is aimed at young players with dreams of playing first grade or rep football.
The book was co-compiled by the well known League writer E.E. Christensen and authorised by the NSWRL and QRL. Other chapters include comments from numerous players including Harry Bath, Norm Provan and Dave Brown.
Much of it as relevant today as it was then, particularly when it comes to looking after your gear.

Chapter 2
Look after your Football Gear!
The care of your football gear is most important. Look at any leading player on the field - notice how neat his appearance is. Internationals spend a lot of time attending to their gear and this is one of the reasons for their success.
Boots are by far the most important item - they must be the right fit and be properly laced to give good support to your ankles. Six studs are sufficient; two on the heel and four on the toe. Don't let studs become worn or loose. It is a matter of taste as to whether you use soft or hard toes.
Use clean socks for every match - don't let them fall down during a game, it looks untidy and could spoil your kicking; also it gives the other team something easy to hang onto. A hole in your sock could lead to a blister and hamper your play. Have them fixed!
Shorts should be well adjusted - they should fit the waist so that they are comfortable and don't need hitching.
If you run out on the field "looking good", you'll help yourself and no doubt impress the other side.

I think it's about discipline as well as pride.
Good post Eastview. Obviously the knockers missed the point you were trying to make, but don't worry about that.
