Strider, I never said anything about joining Super League, cheating salary caps or raping chicks in Coffs Harbour, did I?

No you didn't and I never claimed you did....but I think Debbie Spillane's article is a very interesting read about what can go wrong when clubs have no outside influence.....and I cringe at the thought of ever being anything like Canterbury, regardless of their onfield success.

I think you will find that, at board level, Saints and Canterbury have had moreoutside influence than Parra in recent years.

No, until just recently, Canterbury's board is almost entirely ex-players.

Saints, I am not sure of, but I have no issue with their admin (or morals)....but lets face it they have ridden just as big a rollercoaster as us in recent times.

And I get to be a member of a club I'll rarely visit?

BTW, I read somewhere that Fitzy, as CEO, was employed by the board, and not a member of it. So there goes the voting option

Not really.

When the elections come around, its not to hard to pick the candidates who want change. Not being able to visit the club sounds like a weak excuse......we're only talking the cost of half a dozen scooners.

For somebody so vocal about changing the board, I'm surprised.

Perhaps its easier to throw stones?

Replace him and his crusty old cronies with a new, brighter amin that actually encourages comraderie and pride within the club. Allow fans to wear Eels jumpers into at least ONE bar at the club. Encourage the old legends to come back - alienating Ray Price is akin to ignoring your mother. He, and other Eel greats, need to be brought back into the fold.

Need a model? St George (and Canterbury), who look after their own, recycle ex players into handy coaches or administraters. I mean, look at all the El legends (not JT who was a 1 year man). Who is still involved in the club out of them all? Hilditch and Fitzy. Meaning that the offers of service from Ray Price, Brett Kenny, Mick Cronin, Jack Gibson and Terry Fearnley were all ignored, and the potential post-playing contributions of the liked of Mark Laurie, Sterlo, Jarred McCracken, etc etc etc were ignored.

Parra need to be made into a club that looks after its own.

2 GET A NEW COACH. Somone who can put a side on the paddock with 3 internationals, 2 origin players and a former 5/8 of the year and not get flogged. Somone wo can coach defence. Somone who can pick a decent 5/8 and not their best buddy. Someone who can give the players confidence. Someone who can KEEP players.

3 PROMOTION: work on a number of initiatives to get more than a pisswealk 8000 into Parra Stadium. Offer free tickets to kids for the north and south stands, for example. Admittedly the Swamp idea is a good one, but more needs to be done.

I agree with almost all of that. Since Smith is contracted for a couple moe years - I would, if possible, put him into a position like Phil Gould at the Roosters and then hire a good "match day" coach.
Smith is good at getting ordinary players and making them play above themselves - however, some of his match day tactics leave a lot to be desired.

I would focus on junior development. I would limit buying players to 4 new players a year with the aim to get 1 really good player per year

Ive said it before and ill say it again ....

we need to mould a team around the people who have (or should have) the ball the most.

Half 5/8 and hooker.

My solution is this.

1. We need a NATURAL halfback, that is an organiser
We either go out for Orford or we promote Young Tim SMITH NOW.

2. We need a complimentary 5/8. Thorman OR Dykes OR even Delaney and stick with them... none of this chopping and changing crap.

3. Tell Morris hes the hooker and leave him there.

Build the team around these three players. I dont care if we promote Tim SMITH and lose every game for the rest of the year to get it right. Eventually it will come good.

These three need game time playing together not 30 mins on then 30 mins off. What a load of crap. BS is the only coach that splits his halves halfway through the game!.

This and only this will arrest the decline in the eels.

Its not rocket science.

This makes sense. Halback and 5/8 should play the entire game. It just disjoints a side to keep swaping playmakers.
