This is a quote from our local paper....

For the game against the Roosters at Campbelltown is cost us $30,000 to hire lights for television, $10,000 for a big screen, and we had to hire turnstiles and security guards.

It costs you $50,000 to play a day game at home. It costs you another $14,000 on top of that for a Saturday game.

If we go to Jade Stadium or Telstra Stadium, we don't pay any of those costs, he said. (Steve Noyce)

We don't make any money out of playing a home game. The only money we will make from playing our home games this season is through the two double- headers at Homebush and the home game against New Zealand at Jade Stadium.

it was pretty interesting to read those stats when i read the article in the paper.. both grounds need to be repaired or updated.. but when will it happen? who knows..
we'll probably be still sitting here in 2010 with one year left to run on the license and nothing will have been done..

Thats probably close to Half a Million thrown away each season. I don't know how much a big screen would cost but you would think if they bought one of their own it would work out better than hiring (and they could probably rent it out themselves). As for no lights the Magpies side of things should be buying a perminant set up for campbelltown. Either that or the club should be considering a move to somewhere like concord. I don't like the idea of moving at all but throwing away money like that is just stupid. It's like people who rent dvd players from radio rentals for 5 bucks a week... when u can go to crazy clarks and buy one for 70 dollars.

I just thought we should not whinge anymore about our home games being played at Homebush etc, now we have some idea of the amount of dollars it takes just for one home game! :(

So next year we are set to play more games at Homebush, Jade Stadium for financial reasons, and that is a fact. :( Not ideal, but understandable and we should try and support our team as much as possible. ;-)

Big screens are prohibitively expensive and you have to remeber that part of the NRL grant is supposed to be for the screens since they are compulsory.. Also you then have to man the screens which means at least one person fulltime plus 2-3 on gamedays. Add an extra $100000 to the budget..

Tigerdome? Is that still happening? I think it would be great.

But does Harry really care/want to spend his money on the Tigers?

We have a licence now till 2011 renting something you need on a regular basis is just bad business. If the club bought it and manned it over the weekends ran it at our games then rented it to other clubs for the day we didn't use it, I would say the club would have to come out in front in comparison to what they are doing now. Companies like AusSport Scoreboards must be making a good enough profit so why throw money away for no reason. If at some stage we are going to move fulltime then it is pointless but yeah if we are staying at our current home grounds then it would have to be worth it.

Its all a tax ride off if they rent it and dont buy it, they say it costs them money but they use it to stop paying huge amounts of tax.

There is only two companies that provide the big video screens "Screencorp" (who the club uses) and Clipsal Vision. You then need to look at haulage to get to venues and in some cases cranes to get the screens into venues plus maintence (there's a hell of a lot). You would need to set up a whole new company basically to do this and need extremely specialised techs to work the screen (I have directed for Screencorp and know those that work there still)... And I haven't even touched on insurance and public liability.... And that's just the screen you then need to also look at vision switchers, monitors, tape playback etc and employing folks to run that too...Once again I re-iterate the lights might be a cost we have to bear however FUNDS FOR THE SCREEN ARE PART OF THE NRL GRANT AS THEY ARE COMPULSORY(the total cost for hiring screens for home games would be around the 100,000 for the year).. I know buying a screen (got a spare 2mil approx and that's for a crap second hand one) seems like a logical move trust me it's not.. Lets stick to doing what we do best... Playing footy not running a big screen company.

No I think your thinking of the ill fated scoreboard.. I worked at the first game when they re-opened the ground directing for the Big screen which was a Screencorp hired screen..

And Steve Noyce was just on 2gb echoing those thoughts on costs to stage a game......Now as an old Balmain fan this hurts me to say but our future sadly needs to be at one ground and Campbelltown is it. I think its really only a matter of time before that happens, if this club is to reach its full potential than this is something that will have to be done, i know a lot wont agree with me and thats fine but the club is never going to reach its full potential while it is split into half.
