Winning a World Cup with the All Blacks > winning a World Cup with the Kiwis.

I remember the Kiwis didn't even get a parade when they won the World Cup, just some shitty presentation at the Otahuhu Rugby League club organized by the Mad Butcher. I'm sure he wants to go to the Olympics as well and add a gold medal to his achievements. Then he'll probably concentrate on boxing after 2016 and have press conferences with Fergo

the only reason he went to rugby was the dogs wouldnt upgrade his 400k  he went to rugby and instantly got 2 million for 2 years in fance. He already won a world cup in rugby. With 1billion tv deal this the chance for the nrl to offer a player like SBW a deal he cant refuse

2014 is the unknown, but I think it's pretty obvious he'll be playing rugby union & not rugby league in 2015.

After the Rugby Union World Cup, would he return to rugby league at age 30 ? With 2 more years of union, or league & union it's doubtful with the injuries he's already suffered. He could hang around in rugby to play 7's in the Olympics in 2016 & then focus on boxing.

If you enjoy him playing rugby league, make the most of it, because it won't be for much longer ( not the fault of the NRL when he returns to rugby union though )

The NRL could do what the afl did with ablett and hunt and Issy.
Pay him outside of the cap. Comes under marketing. SBW gets his money... We get to watch him play.. Everyone's happy.

I don't think specific players should be given money outside the cap, it has to be something available to all teams.

He can make almost if not the same amount of money in Union. It would be the International game that Union has would be the big pulling point. Otherwise he would be off to Salford or a Jap/French Union.

Hilarious, the oxford streeters believe the game will go to shit (pun intended) if their pin up boy (SBW) goes.

It is a game; not a marketing exercise.

The marquee player allowance has been looked at before and anyone with a little business nous will tell you, it will not work.

By the way girls, the game played last night was very ordinary and Easts win more to do with Souths playing shit then SBW playing great.

We should do everything we can to keep players like SBW, Inglis, the Burgess boys, Thurston etc in the game. These are the players that attract crowds, merchandise sales, new sponsors and the like. They are the ones you see on highlight reels and still talk about 20 years down the track.

As big a wnker as $BW is I would have no problem with the NRL topping up his salary IF he plays for the Warriors and does a sht load of RL promotion work in NZ as part of a massive marketing strategy in kiwi land.

Or with a new expansion side (if it was to happen next year) or the wooden spooners.

The $10m man: SBW joins Wolfpack on most lucrative deal in either rugby code’s history

All Blacks megastar Sonny Bill Williams is switching sports yet again, with the two-time NRL champion joining the Toronto Wolfpack on the most lucrative deal in either rugby code’s history.

Following on from New Zealand’s disappointing third place at the World Cup, Williams will reportedly pocket $5 million a season over two years with the English Super League club.

Channel 9 journalist Danny Weidler broke the story on Tuesday night.

“There’s been a lot of speculation about what Sonny Bill’s next move will be,” Weidler said.

“It will be to return to rugby league. Not in the NRL, he’s made his mind up to join the Toronto Wolfpack, who play in the English Super League.

“The deal is stunning — $10 million for two years’ work. Incredible money there. Probably the biggest deal that I’ve ever heard of in rugby league or rugby union.

Williams will become Toronto’s marquee player and therefore the vast bulk of his massive deal won’t count towards the salary cap.

It will also signal William’s return to rugby league since he spearheaded the Sydney Roosters’ charge to the NRL title in 2013.

Not that SBW is a stranger to rugby league — he first came to prominence as a blockbusting second-rower at the Canterbury Bulldogs, famed for his powerful shoulder charges.

He then switched to rugby, claiming a Super Rugby title with the Chiefs while also having stints at Toulon, Crusaders, Wild Knights and the Blues.

Williams became the fourth man to win both NRL (Bulldogs, Roosters) and Super Rugby (Chiefs) titles.

Wolfpack head coach Brian McDermott revealed earlier this month the dual international had expressed an interest in joining the Canadian club and he is thought to have held face-to-face talks with the centre or edge forward in Japan at the weekend.

Wolfpack is such a pack of cards. No tv money, half the 8k crowd freebies, let’s hope the owner isnt another Tinkler!
