At a rep selection trial a few years ago a bloke I know was a selector along with two others and they were picking an u18s side after the games. The other two had this kid pencilled in at five eighth and this bloke questioned their choice because from what he'd seen he was surprised they had this kid as their pick for six. When he questioned this one of the others said "you know that's (ex-first grade and origin player's) boy don't you?" The bloke said he was pretty sure they were picking the team on the ability of the kids and not their fathers but he was out-voted.

Having spent my teenage years in Sydney and playing in the Canterbury district throughout my juniors in the early 90's, seeing the saloon passage the Anderson kids and anyone related to the 'family' got was sickening.

I'm taking it you are under 25 because His uncle John Cartwright was an out standing back rower and a regular at origin and test level. He would easily be in the top 5 off loaders of the last 40 years.

Cartwright has shown a bit of potential, but atm he isn't anything more then an inconsistent kid finding his way in first grade. Again if he had a different last name there's no way he would have had the hype attached to him ATM.

He is already doing freakish things on the footy field and has the best offload in the NRL already, some of the tries he set up for us last season were incredible, and that was in a poor side(last year) coming off an ankle injury where the doctor told the club his career was over. I agree he has been a bit inconsistent and has plenty to learn(fitness levels have been a problem I think) in his time at FG but he was getting that consistency going a lot better last season before his Kidney injury, he has also been asked to play in the halves as cover lots of times and been shifted around due to injuries. Cartwright would have a lot of hype no matter what his name was just like any kid who dominates the junior grades as much as he did, it would be a little less obviously but everyone would of still known who he was before he hit FG.

The stats back that up as far as the offloading goes. Corey Parker has a great late offload which is very effective but cartwright offloaded more than parker did last season(more than anyone did actually), im assuming Parker played more minutes than Bryce as well and more games since the totals on the NRL website include the finals and Bryce didn't even finish the season and I think he only started half his games..but yeah if you have a real argument to make go ahead and if you want to check the facts go to the nrl website and look at the stats.
