Thanks to the Soho channel, I have got to watch the Sopranos from start to finish for the first time. It just finished this week with the much talked about ending.

How do you see the ending? What are your thoughts of what happened?

I think that was the end of Tony right there and then. I remember him having a conversation with Bobby, when Bobby asked Tony what he thought death was like, to which Tony replied 'its like cutting to black' or something along that line. Which is what happened in that last shot.

Also for the first time in the shows history, there was no music played when the end credits rolled. Which lead me to believe that Tony was done.

My first thought was that it was just business as usual. Some of his guys got whacked, another guy has turned on him but he still sits down to dinner with his family and life goes on. You see all the other groups and families sitting around to their meals doing the same thing.

But more and more I think of it, I have with you Kiwi Boi. I remember the conversation with Bobby. I think he said something along the lines of you don't see it coming.

The nervous guy at the counter that goes to the toilet perhaps came back out and shot him??

Yup I think he would of came back out and popped him from the side, you're right about what Tony said to Bobby, that makes more sense.

I remember watching it with my wife that night, she couldn't go sleep till the next morning, jumping online and checking out forums for answers.lol. Perfect ending imo.

From the man himself, David Chase :

"I wasn't going to do this, but somebody said it would be a good idea if we said something about that ending. I really wasn't going to go into it, but I'll just say this...when I was going to Stanford University's graduate film school and was 23 [years old], I went to see Planet of the Apes with my wife. When it was over, I said, "Wow...so they had a Statue of Liberty, too."

Yeah I think Tony definitely got whacked, mainly due to the convo with Bobby and the little clues in the final scene. I read an interview with Chase about how he wanted to deny the viewer the pleasure of seeing Tony die after years of cheering him on through all the horrible things he did.

The final two episodes are among the best things ever aired on television IMO

Yep he definately got whacked. I remember watching it on TV and wondering what the hell happened, i thought the channel signal cut out on me first off. Then I was like, "is that it? that sux". Then later thought it was a fitting end to one of my favourite shows ever.

I remember reading that there were clues in the last scene, Meadow had 2 attempts at parking her car before successfully parking signifying the 2 attempts on Tony's life before the third time (this one) that is successful and he's whacked.

The guy who get up and goes into the toilet comes and shoots Tony parallels what happened in The Godfather, Tony's favourite movie.

Man in the Members only jacket was hired by Fulvio, the Italian guy who fell in love with Carmela.
Remember back in season 3 or 4 when Fulvio was back in Italy and told an elder of his love for a bosses wife. The advice was to kill the boss as it was the only way to be with Carmela.
