So the series is already decided right? Even with a draw SA retain the trophy.
Yes. However, there's still WTC points on offer, which could be vital at the end in deciding who makes the 2027 final.

Although it's not going to happen if another rank-turner gets dished up, a drawn test in Guwahati would be the best outcome for Australia, as it lowers the win % of both teams: both of whom Australia have to play within the next 15 months of the current 2025-27 cycle.

SA doing well 2nd test, won the toss and batted yesterday

7/384 after 129 overs

Out of the 9 bats who have had a hit so far, only one has scored less than 28

Deck expected to deteriorate and turn

Of all the cricket grounds that are available in India, to hold test matches in the far east of the country at this time of the year when sunset is around 4:30pm is a joke.

Even starting at 9am, the extra 30 minutes beyond scheduled stumps cannot be used as the umpires have deemed the conditions too dark by 4pm.

I hear ya

I think its a debut test venue, so they had to play (get it out the way) somehow

Probably tells you what they think of the opposition and series more than anything else

So whose getting sacked first Gambhir or McCullum
Definitely McCullum if Australia can thrash England 5-0 or even 4-0. If that were to happen, there will be a massive falling out in the English squad and the British media will turn on them, much like what happened in the aftermath of the 2013/14 Ashes series, when England were whitewashed

Gambhir's Indian side did pull off a 2-all drawn series in England not long ago (should've won 3-1 if they didn't screw up the run chase at Lord's), so with India not playing another test series until August next year, I think he's safe for now.

What will be interesting to see is if South Africa enforces the follow-on if they end up with a 200+ run first innings lead.

Being more than halfway through the test match, there won't be much time left for India to clear the deficit, try to set a competitive target and then attempt to bowl South Africa out in order to square the series 1-all. This pitch is not the rank-turner Eden Gardens was from day 1.

Smart move by SA

They are 1-0 up in this 2 test series

314 ahead, all 2nd innings wkts in tact with two days to play

Nothing would make me more happier if they bat all day today and not declare overnight 😁

Though I suspect the would want a 500+ lead and declare sometime around tea today

Indias next HOME test series is v Australia in early 2027

SA have come a long way after resting their test players in NZ to prioritise t20 cricket a while back.

Still wouldn't call them a fearsome side but as the WTC holder they have earned some respect back.
