The USA Rugby League LLC Domestic Competition is pleased to announce that the South Florida Speed will join the Atlanta Rhinos, Jacksonville Axemen, Lakeland Renegades, Tampa Mayhem, and Southwest Florida Copperheads as the sixth South Conference team for the 2021 Domestic Competition.

Ryan Forston is at the helm of the Speed as they enter a men’s and women’s side for 2021. The Speed grew out of the South Florida Rugby Football Club and were present at an informal event this past September in Tampa. Several team owners were onsite and impressed with the talent from South Florida. After a few conversations, the Speed formally submitted their Expression of Interest for acceptance and it was unanimous with all 11 clubs.

The addition of the Speed to the South Conference brings an even number of teams so there will be no bye weekends in the 2021 schedule for the South, except the traditional July 4 break, which will allow for a smoother schedule.

Please join us in welcoming the Speed to the USA Rugby League Domestic Competition.

The Speed can be found on Facebook @soflorfc.

Saw this on Twitter, they will play both the union and league seasons. Hopefully a few other teams in Florida will follow suit if the seasons don’t clash.
Also there is a team forming in Birmingham, Alabama hoping to be included into the comp next year or the year after. That will give Atlanta some competition a little closer to home.
With the new team in cleveland, Columbus and also Chicago and Joliet? Hopefully the Midwest comp will finally kickoff

I hadn't heard about Birmingham, Alabama looking to form a team, are you able to provide anymore insight on that side?

As you mentioned, would definitely help Atlanta, although it's a long trek down to the southern tip of Florida.

Queen City Royals are another in the mix, which is exciting as well as it's been a while since the Northern Conference has truely expanded

Again I saw on Twitter that 4 or so Atlanta rhinos players who live out that way have decided to form a team.
It is a long trek to south Florida, hopefully within the next 5 year another few teams can form a new conference around the Atlanta area

Interesting that this team plans to field RU and RL teams

They already have a Union side, so are expanding into League.

Hopefully they are successful and other Rugby clubs follow their lead, it will be the quickest way for League to expand in the US.
