Souths cannot win the competition without Sam Burgess

Souths let go of 5 of their starting 13 from last year to buy Burgess. They obviously thought he was worth sacrificing a huge amount of depth for. No one to blame but themselves.

Well last years squad was nowhere good enough either.

Unless Reynolds and Burgess are playing they have no kicking game and no go forward.

If not for the hype of Sam Burgess returning I don't think many, other than rabbitohs supporters had them winning anything this year.

They lost too many players, playing with a half (Keary) who checked out weeks ago and a busted fullback who again, looks disinterested. They belted two very average teams (on performance) and lost their half and best forward. All that's left is GI and a few decent first graders.

I do rate some of their young guys but seems the likes of Tyrell and Clarke are on borrowed time and should be thankful they have no depth cause nowhere else would they get selected in first grade.

Is Inglis only there for the comedy value, seems that has been his only contribution in 12 months.

Don't worry about Burge$$, $ouff$ won't win without thier little referee friends that have abandoned them big time

Could it be that the NRL prevents any club that wins a title, from winning a premiership for at least 15 years if this salary cap is to be believed?

Do they influence it through the refs,or clubs players feigning injury,or players getting into strife therefore missing game time?

Can't wait for the whistle blower's book.

Souths won't win the comp even with Burgess...they don't have the depth this year.

Well even our depth is injured at the moment

Players like Zane Musgrove and Angus Chrichton were the two leading players who would have made their rookie debuts this year but both are out injured long term. In an ideal scenario players like Tyrrell, Clark and Brown would be playing NSW Cup most weeks

Injuries haven't been kind to us early on, depleting four of our most important players and our depth.

In any case we are going to struggle without Sam, Reynolds, Tom and Sutton. Three of those are on field leaders, and our biggest problem right now is we look directionless without them

Souths cannot win many big games without Sam Burgess. That has been the conclusion one has to draw from the first four rounds, and last year's collapsed defence of their title.

Sam Burgess has a bigger impact on the team than Greg Inglis, who was awful today. He is the number one forward in the NRL. Among NRL forwards, only his fellow Englishmen James Graham and Josh Hodgson come close in terms of impact on a game.

If Sam Burgess, and both his twin brothers, plus Adam Reynolds and Greg Inglis all play, then Souths have a very good team that could win the Grand Final. But without all of them on the paddock, it is a mediocre to poor team. Like the Roosters, the team has no depth to cover injuries to several key players.

Correct.

Except GI was still good on Friday.

Sam is inspirational.

Remember Reyno is a massive loss too as is Tom, Sutto with his ball playing and offloads plus Musgrove who is a really strong young forward.

AJ was out too. Goodwin picked up an injury too on Friday.

Maybe beating up the roosters and knights shouldn't be considered a measuring stick like souths fans were leading us to believe?

Well I don't believe Souths are a top 4 team due to injuries affecting us. With a fully fit side most weeks we would be a top 4 side.

I see Souths this season as a top 8 side though.

No f*cking shit. Just like the Storm can't without Smith, the Cowboys can't without Thurston and the Broncos can't win without Parker.

We really missed Burgess and Reynolds today. There's a few more injuries that haven't helped either, but that's the way it goes. Keary should have tried harder as should most of our forwards.

Good win to the Bulldogs and I commend them on that but ffs missing your forward leader and starting halfback is gonna make you struggle no matter what.

Correct.

I don't call Grant a starting player.

Make that 4.

In fact Stewart in the back end of the season didn't give a toss.

So it's 3.

Issac, McQueen and Dylan.
