You can't completely restrict the players but I think limiting them is smart. It's been a poor season and there's not really anything to celebrate about. In saying that you can't restrict them from having fun.

But what they are doing is actually the opposite of restricting/limiting them.

Footy players getting together at the end of the season for a drink up is as certain as the sun coming up every day. Not only is it inevitable, it can be a good thing. Get the blokes together in a relaxed environment with a few beers and maybe they'll start being honest and open with each other.

The reason the clubs started sanctioning the mad Monday was to get control. Everything is in a controlled environment, people can't harass the players and there's no chance that a player can do something obnoxious to the public. Can book out a venue and any minor incident can be sorted out. Players can be dropped home after the event. To not 'sanction' mad money is pretty much meaning your letting the players loose to do their own thing.

I completely agree with what you're saying but Richo is just saying that they will still do some sort of celebration but it won't pose as a huge risk to the players taking illicit drugs. I think this is also happening because there was a certain prop in our side caught doing illicit drugs in the off season. I hope they all have a drink, it's one of the best ways to bond as a team.

No team can cull even 12 players in one swipe you Dill!!! Cut 19 players and what happens when a couple of key players get injured or suspended?? You keep daydreaming about an instant cull of a mass body of players and the immediate purchase of several quality imports. Hasler purchased two expensive imports but now the club is in Salary Cap hell and has to cull a series of experienced players!!! You act like a Glue sniffer, totally unrealistic. Some young guys play a few games and they are "duds". Wasn't Murray a "dud" according to you months ago?? Now he gets voted in the top 3 almost every game!!! The boy plays his heart out. Jennings too you classed/class as a "dud" but he scored twice in the final game did he not??? If you ran or managed a football team it would be a total unmitigated disaster. .

Personally I think it's a bad move. Yes the season hasn't been great but a lot of that has been due to injuries and poor recruitment rather than the players not putting in.
Having no mad Monday isn't going to stop players taking drugs if they are that way inclined. Our last major drug issue was two halfwits watching DVDs at home with prescription meds for f**ks sake.
Events like mad Monday are an opportunity for the team to bond together, we're talking about a group of young blokes who can't get wrecked every weekend letting their hair down and having a good time together.
