Things just seem to go from bad to worse for the Halifax Blue Sox. Friday night saw them beatensixty four -nil away to St Helens. After such a loss and poor recent form, the writing was surely on the wall for coach Steve Linnane.
Linnane was given his marching orders the following morning.
The Blue Sox, who will announce a new coach on Monday morning, have issued the following statement.
"The Halifax Blue Sox Board of Directors announce that the contract of Coach Steve Linnane is terminated with immediate effect. We wish Steve, his wife and family all the very best for the future.
"The club will reveal a new Coach on Monday 26th August at a Press Conference at 10am after firstly introducing him to the playing staff at 9.00am.
"The Board of Directors has invited a number of local personalities and businessmen to advise them, these include Chris Bell, Mick Stansfield, Stephen Pearson and Laurence Turner. At least 2 other people will be joining the group before Monday's Press Conference in the Weavers at The Shay Stadium.
"Sunday 1st September 3.30pm is our next home game at The Shay Stadium against Warrington Wolves, the biggest game this club has faced since Super League started. We have a week to make sure that everybody in Halifax and who supports Halifax Rugby League Club understands just how vital this game is.
"At the Press Conference on Monday morning other decisions will be communicated and until that time no other statement will be made."
