Word is that SHannon Hegarty maybe seeking a release from the Roosters. He has been injured all year, but the boy is quick and knows how to find the line. I wouldnt mind Tate either but Hegarty and Vaeliki would make a brilliant centre pairing.

Good call Wags. Very welcome at the Eels - he's a rep player with the world at his feet IMHO.

Well what about Eric Grothe?
Many successful NRL players have been in this situation and a change of club has renewed their careers.

True, the change did him well however tell me this how many good players do the Roosters let go? Yes, they are releasing players however, they are players who in most cases are "surplus to requirements".

Put it this way, the Roosters weren't impressed that Grothe left as he had more or less agreed to terms. They are however RELEASING Hegarty. If they were wanting to re-sign him and we weighed in with a better offer I could see some worth in the deal.

This may sound hard to believe, but its almost certainly a salary cap issue for the Roosters. Hegarty is clearly a very good player but when you've got as many outside backs coming through the ranks as the Roosters have, the last place you want money tied up is on a winger, no matter how good they are. I think they would accept he's a rep player and they've got no hope of offering him the money deserves, so its better to just release him. I'd like to know the full extent of this reocurring foot injury though thats kept him out for som long (and out of my VNRL team, too!)

Still think for a smaller amount he could do the job that a Brent Tate could do.

I think our "bargain buys and pet projects" this year have shown us where that has gotten us now and in the past. Langi has performed well, Tate or even Lyon for that matter would probably have finished movements that may have won us the games that we lost early in the season.

If we have the money spend it. Bargain buys get the job done but money buys us the class we are lacking.

Too true Colonel, "bargain buys" have got us nowhere, if we are to buy anyone then it should be restricted to quality players. Can't see the point of just changing faces for the sake of it, somewhat like shuffling chairs on the Titanic.

IMO Hegarty is no better than what we have now. Yes the guy has played for Australia and Qld but does anyone remember where and why. He has been picked in a lot of cases due to injury. In all honesty he would be lucky to ever be picked in a full strength Origin or Australian side.

My point is that we need to buy a game breaker and not waste our cash on Brent Tate.

Tate is capable of breaking a game open - he and Lyon in last years Test scored some great tries and a lot of their own backs.

The other point is what other "game breakers" are left on the market?

Very few if any.

Id say he is a gamebreaker, he is in PL because of injuries. If any of you recall, Ryan Cross had almost 2 years of constant injuries and failed returns, look at him now. He has got his pace and confidence back.

Hegarty is very quick. Ive been watching him since he was a youngster in fleg. If Souths have snagged him, more power to them, but I think he would be a good acquisition and a cheaper option than Tate.

Pass.
Hegarty is a dirty b@stard. Always throwing the cheap elbow/shot and running in to start/continue trouble.
Like many roosters players (crocker, hodges) this generally goes unchecked. Got a feeling he'll be speeding a lot of time on the sidelines if and when he moves clubs.
Tate is the way to go.
