Spell Checking

Just picking up on some comments re-spelling recently in the Tri-Nations game (but it has been raised before throughout the past season). I checked the articles in question and found some minor punctuation and grammar errors in the ones mentioned. Now these may or may not be marked down depending upon the referee (each ref has a different view on this; for example I will only mark down if it affects the reading of the piece, and others are strict on this area and will mark down regardless). What needs to be remembered is that every ref is different and it pays to to be aware of that when you are submitting your articles. So the best way to avoid any confusion is run your check and if you get any red lines then you need to fix them before posting.

But you still should be careful. Some refs mark down based on hyphenation and combined words. For example salivor marked down for scoreline as opposed to score line. (Correct me if i'm wrong.)

Not sure what can be done there as it shows up ok in a spell check, and is acceptable in both ways, but again it comes down to the individual ref i guess.

I just typed scoreline in word and it comes up as an error (no such word) with a red squiggle under it. As I said some refs may not mark that down, and some refs will, so really unless you are sure on what the ref is like in that area it's best to to take the safe option and correct it.

It really irks me to see forum 7's players having a whinge about refs and spelling/grammar deductions

Come on guys it's not as though we do this for a living, it's basically for fun

Just run your article through spellcheck before submitting and also use the preview button on the forum before hitting the submit button to fix any formatting issues

Fair enough antonious, probably a bad example, but the point I was trying to make was that there can be discrepancies between the ref's spell check and the player's. It can mean only having a custom dictionary or a word than is acceptable with both spellings.

Best example I can come up with is if we have british or american players etc. who use -ize as opposed to -ise as an ending. It's acceptable both ways, no rules apply on whether spelling must be correct to Australian or American Standards, and as it has been seen, 0.1 can make the difference between a draw or a win.

I'm not sure if what I'm saying even matters, I'm just putting forward another point of view and something to keep in mind.
