Righto, with 4 and a bit rounds to go, we're currently in the spoon position. The panthers getting lapped tonight has helped us. If we can win by 8 or more on Monday night we'll be second last..... Woo hoo

I think Monday night's game is a win. The motivation is clearly there now and Tigers are in poor form.

If we avoid the spoon it will be on the back of the structures that have been put in place over the past 2 seasons.

But if we do get the spoon it'll be because our strong squad of 2005-2010 was naturally degraded by the salary cap and old age.

It happens. We peaked and then had to rebuild.

After 26 rounds
2005: 1st
2006: 8th
2007: 5th
2008: 11th
2009: 8th
2010: 12th
2011: 14th
2012: ???

There's a definite trend of decline there. That's the consequence of trying to keep a premiership contending side together, along with a series of new coaches - the structures will suffer and eventually need to be rebuilt, like what is happening to the Panthers now.

There's no need to be offended when it's pointed out.

Actually we lost the GF in 2009 and narrowly missed the semis the following year when Burt missed that goal vs Tigers.

But hey, great story Bro.

But that's why Ando (& his predecessors) had to go. You can't be nearly getting there. That was the supposed argument used by the "Kearney is the Saviour" lot. Yet, 2011 was worse & 2012 would more than likely have been even worse again had "the next Wayne Bennett" stayed on. However, I get the feeling Brad Arthur knows his stuff and we may well avoid the spoon from here. As a Parra fan, the next 5 matches will be rivetting viewing.

I think the "trend of decline" Poupou talks of speaks volumes about how our club is being run and the effects the decisions of those people running it (past and present admins) have made. The hiring of Hagan was a dumb move. The sacking of Anderson and hiring of Kearney was downright ridiculous. You reap what you sow.

We lost a grand final in 2001 too and didn't win another finals match for four years. It happens.

So how is it over there in "Brad Arthur is the freaking man-Land", by the way?

So, after today, we're back in pole position.

As mush as i hope we don't get it, we probably deserve it....

Whoever is coming 16th after round 26th deserves it. I don't understand this mentality some fans have of 'my team doesn't deserve coming last this season'. You make your own luck.

There's still a slim chance we will be able to avoid finishing last. Titans should be able to defeat Penrith next week as they are determined to make the finals. South Sydney is a possible win for us depending on which South's side turns up. If it's the same one that played the Sharks and Manly we might be able to win if the team that beat Melbourne/Broncos turns up.

The Dragons match depends on how they go in their next two games. If they lose are have no chance to make the finals we might be able to beat them if Hindmarsh and Burt's last game lifts our side. If they still have a chance to make the finals they will most likely steamroll us.

Our season's not over yet.

It does seem the dreaded spoon is ours now, but last or second last by a whisker, it really doesn't matter. It's been a miserable season for Eels fans.

^This!! Not to mention Parra has the worst defence in the comp by 60 odd and the worst points differential.

Parramatta has been the worst team but the Panthers seem to have escaped all criticism. That's what annoys me. They are a very close second to us in ineptitude.

We need to win a game vs Souths or Dragons. Then need Penrith to lose against both vs Titans and Dogs AND THEN SOMEHOW pick up 21 points in points diff.

It's a good thing our defence is rock solid. :sarcasm:
