Sport World Cup heartbreaker Fabio Grosso eyeing A-League

Fabio Grosso, Australian soccer's public enemy number one, is close to signing a deal to play in Australia.

The Australian newspaper has learned the former Italy international wants to finish his career in Australia and A-League clubs are lining up to sign him.
Grosso is the man Australian fans blame for costing the Socceroos a spot in the 2006 World Cup quarter-finals in Germany, after he dubiously won an injury-time penalty that helped Italy progress in the tournament that they went on to win.
Leading player agent Lou Sticca confirmed Grosso wants to play in Australia.
"I have spoken to him several times and he is very interested in playing in the A-League," Sticca said.
"He is looking for a new, exciting challenge and feels he still has plenty to offer."

What a shame Muscat and Tiatto have now retired. They'd have given him a good welcome...

For all the outrage about Fabio Grosso in 2006, barely a week goes by nowadays without a penalty won by "leaving the leg in".

I'd have him at Sydney and I wouldn't boo him if he signed with someone else. Well apart from Melbourne obv.

I remember all that uproar when Australia were knocked out. From what I remember Italy had a man sent off wrongfully. And in my opinion it probably was a penalty, he played for it but who wouldn't if a defender is silly enough to go ground and stick a leg out.

That kind of thoughtful logic has no place around here, Eddie.
