Next years squad being at 23 just means the incoming coach already has a preloaded excuse that the team isn’t his and failures not on his shoulders.

write of 2025 now unless we can move on 3-4 players to trigger mini rebuild - not that there is much around to buy.

going into 26 I’d be happy to only have Moses, Lomax, Penisini, Matt Arthur, Guymer, Blaize, Hopgood and Moretti on the books from our current squad - plus Gutho if he gets through 2025 fine. 21 places in our squad to fill.

True but our normal cautious and extremely slow processes across every decision see players already moving , limiting choices going forward.

Not surprising given our history particularly with the current admin, but disappointing thing we still wait for a decision what a month after moving the coach on.

Do you count the 3 weeks they spent luring Bennett and not having a fair idea of a plan B in that period.

As they are quoted saying they unofficially sacked BA on May 2. Just wasn't official until the May 20.

5 weeks from May 20 would take us end of June.

I reckon that's long enough if we haven't named out coach by end of June then clearly the ones making the decision don't trust themselves to make the right decision or they NFI.

And our Board and Management decided in Oct 2023 to give BA until a point in 2024 before deciding on his future.
By the time that decision was made, Bennett had been linked with Souths and was always likely to go and resolve his "unfinished business". In fact there were reports linking Bennett to Souths for 2025 as early as April 11th.

To believe that after Souths 2023 season there was no dialogue between Souths and Bennett/Bennett camp prior to season 2024, would be naive to think.

Would not at all surprise me if they were communicating during the 2023 season.

I'm with MJC here. I don't blame the board for giving BA this year. He did get us to the GF in 2022 and if we sacked him in 2023 we would have been as bad as what we did to Daniel Anderson in 2010 when we sacked him after getting to the GF the previous year.

We gave Bennett a proper crack and he turned us down.
