So we still (officially) have 15 merkins in next year's top 30. But interestingly, we only have 28 in this year's top 30 (officially anyway). At this point of the season we're supposed to have 29, so we must've upgraded one of the development list. In a week we will also need to bring the final top 30 player into the squad.

The big question is who's coming into the top 30. Development list players are Field, Heleta, Schneider and Hughes. If it was going to be Field why would we have just signed him to a development contract? Heleta is out for the season, iirc, and Hughes is a very young middle forward in a position where we have a lot of depth. Schneider seems the obvious one, given our lack of depth at hooker, plus if we are refusing to match a stupid offer for Mahoney from a more desperate club we might feel the need to focus on development and retention of the other young dummy half.

I never saw Hollis listed as a development player, though I also thought the fact they named two development players alongside the 28 might mean those two would be upgraded.

Teams are allowed to have 32 players in the "NRL bubble" maybe we've deemed Schneider and Hughes won't be ready and are now looking to bring in 3(?) other NRL players now we've gotten rid of Parry?
