We will certainly be missing Boyd Cordner, any NYC side would. But we have many good players who can fill in in the backrow such as Jerome Leolahi and Ethan Lowe. Souths will have a much proven backline at this level but in saying that, the Roosters also have a very good backline, in fact the backline I named all train with the NRL squad, and that's not including Fine Moeakiola who also trains with the NRL squad and is currently out injured I think. Add Jacob Miller who is another who trains with the NRL squad and is currently playing SG Ball. It will be a cracker of a match with Souths, but I think on paper the Roosters forwards look the better.

I expect to see this line-up for Souths in Round One.

1. Malcolm Webster
2. Kane Morgan
3. Junior Vai Vai
4. Dylan Farrell
5. Josh Mansour
6. Matt Mundine
7. Adam Reynolds
8. Jake Shearer
9. Nathan Peats (c)
10. Jacob Nansen
11. Hayden O'Donnell
12. Joseph So'oalo
13. Blake Judd

14. Brendan McKinnon
15. Josh Starling
16. Jack Tulemau
17. Manasseh Watene

That's a great side and I expect to see both teams in the top 4 at season's end.

For Wests, Roqica is likely to start the year in State Cup. Ben Murdoch is making huge impressions as well.

so the 1 and 6 you mentioned train with the nrl squad? does your nrl side have any backs with nrl experience?
i can see souths make the 4, roosters the 8. i think roosters and cowboys will replace manly and canberra in the 8 from last year.

I forgot that the likes of Vaivai, Farrell and Morgan were still eligible for NYC.. They are great talents.... however Williamson, Leulia, Stanley and Blair imho are just as good.. Will be a great matchup..

The NRL backline will be

1. Carney (possible at 6 with Perrett to FB)
2. Minichiello
3. Graham
4. Kenny-Dowall
5. Perrett
6. Anasta
7. Pearce

There is a bit of experience there.. What footy1 is saying is that the NYC backline are all part of the full time NRL squad and pretty much all have not played in the NYC trials to date but in some of the NRL trials and or in a Roosters contracted reserve team playing NSW Cup sides rather than NYC trials... They thrashed a Parra select reserve side last week 40-14 (same score as first grade) and Balmain NSW Cup team the week before 34-12. Souths I know have a hot backline too so will be a great battle.

So is this your opinion because he played the Sharks trial last week while others played state cup trials?

Not opinion at all, just what I've been told. When you're the 5th choice winger and not considered as a backrower your choice isn't very good.

Fair enough, I just thought they were grooming him for a backrow spot and after training with the NRL squad over the off season he would have a fair shot at a start with the 20's.

He did play backrow off the bench against the Sharks while others played State Cup but I didn't here any reports of how he went. The side selected against the Sharks was supposedly close to the best squad.

Thanks mate, that's exactly what I was saying. It will be a great clash first up.

Peteru-Barnett then.

Broncos.com named him Peteru in the selection, so I thought that's what he was going with.

Just like Watene-Edwards.

you were saying how good your backs must be to all be in the first grade squad. i was saying you must have no first grade depth in the backs. souths will win this one for sure and for certain!
