The NRL backline will be

1. Carney (possible at 6 with Perrett to FB)
2. Minichiello
3. Graham
4. Kenny-Dowall
5. Perrett
6. Anasta
7. Pearce

There is a bit of experience there.. What footy1 is saying is that the NYC backline are all part of the full time NRL squad and pretty much all have not played in the NYC trials to date but in some of the NRL trials and or in a Roosters contracted reserve team playing NSW Cup sides rather than NYC trials... They thrashed a Parra select reserve side last week 40-14 (same score as first grade) and Balmain NSW Cup team the week before 34-12. Souths I know have a hot backline too so will be a great battle.

i think nyc exrperience from last season is a bit better than winning a couple of trials.

1. Brayden Williame
2. Justin O'Neill
3. Kirisome Auva'a
4. Slade Griffin
5. Eddie Faamausili
6. Josh Jerome
7. Jordan Meads
8. Jordan McLean
9. Jake Hawkins
10. Kenny Bromwich
11. Rob Rochow [c]
12. Sam Martin
13. Blake Leary
Subs:
14. Ben Hampton
15. Tohu Harris
16. James Barker
17. Pita Maile

Some intersting selections. Jerome at 6, Avuu'a, Hampton and Harris have both moved straight up from SG Ball and anyone know much about Jordan Meads.

Where's Theo Stuart?

What ever happened to Sepeti (Junior) Afu... interesting Storm line up.

Even the Warriors bench is weird (16/17/18)? Would have thought an extra outside back (not a wing/full back in Fisiahi) would work out better off the bench. Ale Marra playing Vulcans is good.

Stuart must be injured was impressing during the offeason and Afu is no longer with the Storm, was told he went home (?) hopefully he turns up somewhere.

Interesting that Williame has claimed the FB spot, keep an eye on him.

It's a pretty young side. Where's Matt Duffie? He is still eligible for NYC this year, same with Dane Chisholm and Theodore Stuart. Jordan Meads is a great young player from Queensland. He is usually a 6 but can also play 7 on occasions. He played QLD Under 16 in 2008 and is a player with plenty of potential. I thought the Broncos would pick him up but it's a good move coming to the Storm. And why on earth is Pita Maile on the bench?

We will certainly be missing Boyd Cordner, any NYC side would. But we have many good players who can fill in in the backrow such as Jerome Leolahi and Ethan Lowe. Souths will have a much proven backline at this level but in saying that, the Roosters also have a very good backline, in fact the backline I named all train with the NRL squad, and that's not including Fine Moeakiola who also trains with the NRL squad and is currently out injured I think. Add Jacob Miller who is another who trains with the NRL squad and is currently playing SG Ball. It will be a cracker of a match with Souths, but I think on paper the Roosters forwards look the better.

I expect to see this line-up for Souths in Round One.

1. Malcolm Webster
2. Kane Morgan
3. Junior Vai Vai
4. Dylan Farrell
5. Josh Mansour
6. Matt Mundine
7. Adam Reynolds
8. Jake Shearer
9. Nathan Peats (c)
10. Jacob Nansen
11. Hayden O'Donnell
12. Joseph So'oalo
13. Blake Judd

14. Brendan McKinnon
15. Josh Starling
16. Jack Tulemau
17. Manasseh Watene

That's a great side and I expect to see both teams in the top 4 at season's end.

no kane morgan, could make a difference

you were saying how good your backs must be to all be in the first grade squad. i was saying you must have no first grade depth in the backs. souths will win this one for sure and for certain!

its good to be right. best backline.

a roosters winger missed 5 tackles, they looked good on paper, but their defence was paper-thin.

I caught all of the Souths vs Roosters game.
I cant say much for the Roosters players/performance as i wasnt watching them closely :D

For Souths though - So'oalo got through alot of work and had alot of game time and was solid as was Starling off the bench.Nansen often got us out of trouble too.

Mansour was really strong at fullback.
Broke alot of tackles and must have earnt us about 4 penalties.

Mundine threw some nice passes and some absolute rippers that got called forward.
Vaivai vs Williamson was a good battle to watch and there was plenty of words being traded.Vaivai showed some real class in setting up a try for Bennet about 20 or so metres out.

The game was a poor one to be honest and poor defence by the Roosters was the difference.. That winger cannot tackle to save himself.. I saw him in the trials and he couldn't tackle then.. He was in the side only through injury.. Leulia would normally play Centre and Blair on the wing.. Early days but neither side looked impressive and don't look like contenders to me.

so the 1 and 6 you mentioned train with the nrl squad? does your nrl side have any backs with nrl experience?
i can see souths make the 4, roosters the 8. i think roosters and cowboys will replace manly and canberra in the 8 from last year.
just revisiting this early prediction. at the moment, cowboys, roosters and dogs replace st gearge, melb, and broncs in the 8
