St George Illawarra Dragons admit missing NRL top eight would mean season a failure

The goal should be to win the premiership.

Merely making the 8 should not be considered a success.

I dare say that is every club's ultimate goal, but there is no harm in being realistic either.

For example, can you remember Souths just about every year from 2002 - 2010 go on about how they were going to win the Premiership, building up unrealistic expectations in their fan base, which went down like lead balloon when they finished outside the 8 in many of those years.

Conversely, in 2013, Trent Robinson said he et making the Top 8 as the Roosters goal in their pre-season, then changed it to Top 4 mid-season, and then a premiership late in the season.

I mean why set an unrealistic goal? All you do is disappoint yourself. That does not mean you don't aspire to it, but it also does not lead to unrealistic expectations either.
