Gallant Guru good each-way value for mine... will like the increase in distance after a shocking last start. Not to win though - the Ruler will be hard to beat.

Tawqeet to miss the St George

Champion trainer David Hayes has elected to alter the campaign of Tawqeet and he will not line up in tomorrow’s $200,000 G2 Carlton Draught Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield.

Hayes is looking towards the $US 5 million G1 Sheema Classic (2400m) in Dubai on World Cup day for Tawqeet and the horse will have his next start in the G1 Australian Cup (2000m) on March 10.
“It [the Sheema Classic] looks like an ideal race for him,” Hayes said.
“He’s record at a mile and a half is outstanding and the race is on turf so he’ll go into the Australian Cup second-up and be spot on for the race in Dubai.”
During the Spring Carnival last year Tawqeet was undefeated over 2400m winning both the G1 Caulfield Cup and G1 Metropolitan.
In the TAB Sportsbet market for the market for the G1 Australian Cup (2000m), Tawqeet is $13.

Marasco firms in the St George

West Australia's racing’s new hero Marasco has been the focus of action since TAB Sportsbet commenced betting on tomorrow's $200,000 G2 St George Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield.
When betting opened Marasco was a $2.90 favourite and quickly the the Fred Kersley-trained four-year-old attracted two bets of $4,000 at that quote before firming into $2.70. The support continued and another bet of $4000 and one of $1000 went on at the $2.70.
The Lee Freedman galloper King Of Ashford is the only other runner to have had any interest with one bet of $2500 at $8 and another of $1000 at $8. Such was the domination of this pair that up until late yesterday afternoon only $1000 had been invested on the remainder of the field.
Blue Diamond punters have started to look at other runners apart from Victory Chant, who was heavily supported after Tuesday’s barrier draw, with money coming for Familial, two bets of $3000 and $2000 @ $8, Deferential, two bets of $3000 and $2000 @ $8.50, Camarilla, a bet of $3000 @ $10, Press The Button, a bet of $3000 @ $12 and Protesta, a bet of $1000 @ $51 taken yesterday.

MARASCO passed the test last start behind EL SEGUNDO. the 1800m is a query but his trainer knows a thing or two about racing. he'll get a better run with cover today and should relax until the final 400m where he can burst past the rest

chances to CASUAL PASS, POMPEII RULER, KING OF ASHFORD and AQUA D'AMORE

Go Pompeii! I was never in any doubt about who was going to win that, though would've liked to have seen GG go better - not from a financial point of view though.

Woohoo, go Pompey.

All ticking over nicely for the Australian Cup (his main aim at 4th up). 1 more start and he'll be at his peak.

And I have him at 72/1 for it thanks to Camarilla winning 2 weeks ago in the first leg of my double :D
