St George To Take Over Cronulla And Illawarra Yeah

The reality is that Cronulla should never have been let into the comp in the first place back in '67. It was a flawed decision by the league. I know times were different back then, but at least the other club they let in at the same time, Penrith, had a future in a rapidly expanding geographical part of Sydney. MY guess is that letting the sharkies into the comp was the league's attempt to dilute the power of the mighty St George Dragons, who were on an 11 straight premiership winning run at the time.

The only place the Sharks could look to expand to now is the Pacific Ocean.
And in reality, that's where all good sharkies belong anyway.[/quot
good point Drain the Dragon i reckon that was the case and yes St george did pay for it with the talent pool spread around a bit i reckon it cost us big time, good ridence to the merkins

We are now St. George Illawarra, St. George died a long time ago. Get over it. Cronulla left our shores a long time ago. We are St .George Illawarra and proud of it. We have a future. Cronulla will fold sooner or later!!!!!

Cheers LANCELOT.

dont want them anywhere near the coast.
if they are to move their games up here and it works they will re-locate before the bears even have a chance to get their bid up and rolling.
if cronulla weren't in financial strife they wouldn't give a f**k about the coast or its juniors. its only now because they are up sh*t creek that they have any intrest up here because the nrl is offering 8mil to relocate.
we want our own team, fair enough the bears havn't always been from the coast but they had planned to play there from 1999 onwards.
i would rather see the **** fold than come to the coast.

Actually, Illawarra should probably have come in instead of Carringbah-Cronulla in 67. We may still have St George AND Illawarra if that had been the case.

Ancient history though. Moving on. No Blue, No Sharks, No change to jersey, logo or name. As long as those conditions are met they are welcome to rejoin the fold. Welcome back Cronulla Sutherland to the St George family.

We could take over the sharks (think north sydney and manly style), they have a massive construction in the pipeline, I think StGeorge leagues could assist in the funding, get many returns.

As for Jersey colours, can't change it @ all. Sharks could play and have full colours but only in the NSW league.

I wouldn't normally be so harsh, but there is alot of bad blood between sutho and stgi.

looks like Queensland millionaire Geoff Murphy will bail the sharks out but only if they relocate to central Queensland.
so we can just sit back and wath those merkins on there bikes:)

Full relocation?
I think that Central Queensland (if we are talking coastal) is probably a sensible expansion slot. Could be a way to get there without cruelling the chances of perth, Wellington, CC Bears.

well it's looking increasingly like we'll be spared the ignominy of merging with the adopted little brother.

& thanks to the sharks as well.

now instead of merging we simply sweep the charred corpse away & continue as if the last 40-odd years never really happened.

thank you sharkies! you've saved us plenty of moula!

i'm starting to think they're all really closet dragons supporters!

Well a lot of them are in the closet.

And plenty are St George supporters from way back.

Not sure if the two have ever crossed paths.
