Interesting to see that Mr Fouhy from St Peters has been appointed the new Head master at St Pauls. He should do a good job at increasing the roll, getting local people involved and generally making the school a far better place. However ....

He does not like rugby league and there is a chance that he could rebuild the St Paul's 1st XV at the expense of the 1st XIII.

Despite having had great Kiwi rugby league players at St Peters over the years including Cyril Eastlake and Hugh McGahan, the school has never had a rugby league team. Even now with a Mt Albert connection at SPC including surnames such as Cooper and Ackland, rugby league, is not currently played there even outside of the rugby union season.

Keep an eye on it as it may happen!

Its common knowledge that Fouhy prefers rugby to league however I can guarantee you that League will remain the dominant code at SPL and his arrival will not change that.

Also John Ackland is not interested in bringing league into SPC, he is employed as a Teacher for the school not a League Recruit/Coach/Specialist. - his words, not word for word but along those lines.
He refuses to even talk about League in the classroom , thats how serious he is in keeping his two professions separate.

John Ackland used to be a part time teacher at SPC. I never mentioned his name, think of the next generation, his son and son of Shane Cooper too. There was a team playing in the ARL invitation U18 side called the Mt Albert Rebels ... guess where (school) all of the boys came from?

Its a shame theres so much politics at school level around letting kids play whatever code they want.
Hopefully SPC can get a league team entered into the Akl comp now that Fouhy has parted ways with the school.

I, for one, would be highly pissed if this were to happen. I had a bit to do with St Pauls teams over a period, due to my youngest son receiving a scholarship to go to the college and play league for them.

Wonder what Clive Rice thinks about it. He may indeed have been in the running for the principals role.

Guess time will tell.

The same thing happend back in the 80s/90s to De la salle college - no more league teams with a focus on school sport esp rugby union.

First Round of School league has been played and St Paul's have a team entered, no surprise there.

MAGS has no team entered though??? They might just enter a team for the Nationals.
