Surely the NRL must have some input and influence? ATM other codes are just enjoying continued FTA coverage free kicks every week! This does impact a code in the eyes of the public at large. Especially the younger audience.

Codes? Can you name more than one of our main competitiors that are on FTA?

AFL, Rugby Union, soccer. There's two added to the one! And for the record if you don't think they are on FTA tv, you are not looking well enough. Please stop wasting time!

Super Rugby isn't on FTA and the A-League doesn't have the penetration to get a 'free-kick' - it is buried on some third level digital channel if that.

Those codes are on FTA tv.The Sydney union premiership is on FTA every weekend. And A league is on FTA once every week during its season. Let's not weasel out of the truth with the naming of comps. Even Womens AFL is on FTA tv. Nothing like this afforded to rugby league. Considering rugby league's proven ratings performance it's poor treatment and regard for the code .

NRLW is on FTA so is the QLD & NSW Cup games appear on FTA also which are our equivelant of AFLW and the Sydney RU premiership so I don't see your point there.

None of those competitions that you mentioned are garnering ratings that equate to a free kick for the respective code they represent.

EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT THE AFL IS IN THE TOP TEN RATINGS FIGURES FOR FTA TV. If that is not a free kick then we will not agree about "free kicks".

Wot?

AFL are the obvious competitor.

Soccer gets one FTA game each week for the domestic comp, which Network Ten push to their secondary channel 10Bold. The English Premier League has one game usually each week on SBS's multi channel.

Rugby Union, to my knowledge has little or no presence on FTA.

When it comes to FTA coverage of sport in Australia, NRL is second only to the AFL. Both have surpassed cricket in the past off-season with the new deal taking ODI and T20 broadcast off FTA.

If you think any code but the AFL is getting some kind of "free kick" over the NRL on FTA broadcasts, you're making shit up.

SO we agree AFL are enjoying the free kick! That's something. I would suggest rugby union is getting massive airplay/exposure on FOX tv along with AFL. Union also gets FTA coverage on FTA 7mate every Saturday.Occasionally I see rugby league on other Fox channels (which surprises me no end) But in the main if I'm finding out about other codes I'm a certainty seeing them on FOX 500 & various other Fox channels. Understanding that these other sports/codes exist however they don achieve the ratings performance results of rugby league in comparison. Think other codes are getting a leg up when they don't necessarily deserve the free kicks!

Yes, but you said codes which other code is getting a free kick on Saturday night?

Also, AFL ratings in Brisbane and Sydney are appualing so the free-kick isn't helping much.

Also, also for someone who hates AFL so much why are you using the term 'free-kick'?

? A free kick is used in plenty of codes!? Including rugby league. Wow. Showing your lack of sports knowledge now. Rugby union is on 7 mate or whatever every Saturday afternoon. That's FTA coverage of a rival code and that code happens to be increasing it's local crowd numbers and relevance in northern Sydney over recent times.

Your post I replied to specifically mentioned soccer and rugby, neither of which enjoy anything like the presence rugby league does on FTA. You are wrong.

Free kick is not used by anyone in rugby league, at least not recently. The closest to it is a quick tap or a kick for touch. Afl and soccer use free kick.

As for the irrelevant union broadcast on a multichannel, lol.

Still happens. Anyway I'm on my way to Roosters v Saints. A culturally significant sports event. This same game I recall going to as a boy and now I'm treating my own ten year old daughter to the same experience. Go the Chooks.

Hmmm.

Anzac game was introduced in 2002.

Gelding remembers going to it as a boy.

Gelding also says he has a ten year old daughter.

So this gimp must have been about 17 when he had this daughter. And then attended university to become a teacher.

Seems reasonable.

This was also while he was getting his masters degree which he managed to achieve without any English comprehension skills. Interdasting!

It was before then idiot! So dumb. Saints were playing the Roosters well before your perceived date on ANZAC DAY. How dumb and disrespectful. My word the fools are abundant on this site. Apologies to the decent informed contributors.

You've left yourself wide open on this one.

The current ANZAC Day tradition featuring the Roosters and Dragons is indeed est. 2002.

Prior to that, the previous occasion they played each other on ANZAC Day was 1978 and 1979.

That means to have "attended them as a boy" you would have to have been born within a decade or so prior to that time.

Which would make you close to 50 years old?

Believe it or not. That's correct. I'm no juvenile derelict like the people whom raI see such ridiculous accusations and assertions. Is there an issue with a 50 something contributing to this website? I think not. I suggest the assertions have the relevant fools open to scorn and ridicule. I'm fine and comfortable with my comments. And yes I would have attended as a boy those particular Roosters v Saints Anzac day games!
