standard would be my pick then use effects pedals and amp settings to get that dirty sound.

I only ever use the one pickup postion anyway.

I think with the double you might be pigeon holed a bit with grunt.

I do like a heavy bass sound even if its on clean, so would the double
be good for that or do you still recomend the standard?

to be honest I havent had a lot to do with double humbuckers.

If your into heavy chunky sounds then it is the way to go.

Les Pauls( gibson) are set up this way.
I think the SG is similar.

I find ( I use a Marshall JCM 900 valve amp ) that I get plenty of balls out of my rig .
I have a USA Fender strat with lace sensor pickups.
I hardly ever use effects pedals unless it's a digital delay .

So I can get a wide range of sounds .
I can play mellow Ben Harper stuff and also play Tool , Grinspoon or AC/DC and get it sounding pretty close to the originals.
Eg. my band play a few covers .
I play evermore's "too late" and then Tools "Stinkfist".

The double would be heavier though I'd imagine.

I think K.Cobain used the double but in a weird Fender jaguar or something.

in my opionion i think the standard would be my choice, as using the pickup selector ud have the best of both worlds, being able to select the humbucking pickup for meatier sounds, while being able to select the single coil pick=ups for more intricate sounds.
