State grant approved

I just picked up the St George & Sutherland Shire Leader, to read that the state government has approved a grant of about $800 000.

This is extremely great news for the appeal, and the task of raising $1.85million, doesnt look so daunting any more!

The dragons will be back at a revamped jubilee oval in 2003!!!! :D:):)

I cant wait,

Never in doubt. :)

But I thought it was $800K in total including the League club contribution of $400K. I understood the NSW state grant was for $400K only.
Is this $800K all from the state? If thats the case, the club had to match it dollar for dollar... that being the rule.

I'll think you'll find we lodged an appeal for a dollar for dollar grant up to a max of 400,000. Then we applied for a different kind of grant that can go up to 800,000 and Leagues club still chips in 400,000 plus the 100,000 the council has chipped in means we have 1.3 million of 1.85 million we are trying to raise

There is also going to be extra seating made available - all Grandstand seats have been sold for 2003 - what a huge effort!

as far i know, benny has got it right.

the 400 000 dollar for dollar fell through, and we now have this different grant for 800 000. which surely does help us on our way!

its gonna be a bumber year next year, i can just feel it!

If the State Govt put in the whole $800K then it is a different type of grant. Makes me want to move back to NSW just so I can give them my vote. ;)

Can only imagine how the Club managed to swing that.... how much have they put in now?

I’ve heard (from dsaintdragon via his ex-girlfriend) that the Premier is on the way at the moment to announce the grant. Whoopie ! Gladys

Are they? They have a home ground and it needs some work done on it. But what have they done to solve the problems?

The way I see it, the Knights asked for a handout but did buckall to bring it about. They were even relying on Kim Beazley to bring home the bacon.

Saints on the other hand fought hard for this... and across all levels. Supporters got organised and the club got organised.

Now we have $800K from the state govt... not a huge amount but enough to get the ball rolling. The rest of the funding is coming from the club, the councils and the supporters.

Newcastle have a home ground seating 25,000
StGeorge didn't have a ground- now where should the money go?
To get ground back to playing in NRL or a new Grandstand at a Stadium that is going ok ofr the time being - the longer u leave Kogarah the more it will cost, Marathon apart from inflation will be the same!

I thought Marathon already had plans in place to upgrade their stadium? As in, the redevelopment was planned to start in the near future. Or was i hearing things?

SOTV Rugby League News: <dl>State Grant Brings Cheer At Kogarah
18/12/02 Report from: R2K
(From the St.George Leader - December 17, 2002) St.George-Illawarra will add an additional 1,000 seats to Kogarah
Jubilee Oval after receiving approval of a State Government grant
worth nearly $1 million. Fans will see 2002 NRL finalists Cronulla Sharks, Brisbane Broncos
and New Zealand Warriors play at Kogarah after the Dragons announced
their draw for next season. Marketing manager Michael McDonald said 700 new bucket seats will be
installed in front of the grandstand, with another 300 seats
replacing old bench seating on the southern side of the grandstand. "The timing of the state government approval means it will
greatly help us complete stage one of our renovations in time for the
first home game at Kogarah (against the Sharks) next season," he
said. "It also gives our supporters the chance to buy seats, after all
grandstand seating was quickly snapped up by season ticket-holders
after the announcement we were again playing at Kogarah. Over time,
we hope to extend seating even further." Stage one will see the old ground receive a facelift, with a new
toilet block, catering facilities, as well as a refit of media
facilities and corporate seating. The grant of about $800,000 adds to the $400,000 funding from the
St.George licensed club and $100,000 from Kogarah Council. The Dragons confirmed the local derby against the Sharks round 8 (May
2-4) will be Kogarah's first since the Dragons abandoned the
ground in 1999. The four other Kogarah games are against the Cowboys (round 12, May
30-June 1);Broncos (round 17, July 4-6);Raiders (round 18, July 11-
13) and Warriors (round 22, August 8-10) Copyright © John Fairfax Holdings Ltd 2001

There may be a 'low' pressure front moving in, I noticed the barometer at the appeal site has dropped from about 1.3M to 900K an there seems to be indications the Club has committed 50K not 400K. Anyone else remember the barometer showing 1.3M ? Maggie

maggie,
that was my fault,

i posted the wrong picture up when i was uploading the new page, and then my system crashed and i wasnt able to put up the right barometer reading before people saw it.

It's my mail that you can prolly expect to see the barometer rise again in the next few days. But don't hold me to it, it may not happen before christmas break.

Regarding Marathon improvements, I read that they will receive $20 million, from the same fund from which we got our $800 000.
So ours is smallfry compared to that!
I know Marathon needs updating, but $20 000 000 seems an awful lot of dosh. Does anyone know if this is indeed true, or maybe a printing error in the paper?

Thats an extraordinary grant. $20MIL may have been the promise at the last election from Beazley.

Perhaps Roopy can fill us in.

Thats so good! About time I reckon.
Are they serious about the $20 mill? Thats a bit much for a stadium.

Iunderstand they spent $20MIL on Campbelltown Stadium and that was the price tag to bring Barton Park / St George Stadium up to standard but these were from the ground up.

Hi Gorrila,

Mate in your excitementyou misunderstood my e-mail, I said( or what I meant to say was)while I was on the phone to my x-girlfriend the premier himself confirmed the grentapprovalrumour(at the time)I even heard his voice in the back ground andthe minister was heading out to Kogarah to present the money.

Nonetheless we asked for $400k and got $800k. Santa has come earlythis year.

Nice eavesdropping saintdragon !;) As for Newcastle, they proposed a $65 M upgrade of the whole damn box n' dice. They were told to 'stop dreamin' and they went away and cut the cost of the plans to $40M. The funny thing here is that the plans for $40M have all these exclusions (which are needed) and so the cost will not be that low anyway. The state then gave $20M and were trying to get the Feds to pay the balance, but why would Howard do that ? nyuk, nyuk. Campbelltown was about $20M. We are getting away good with a return and $1.35M upgrading, although in another few years people may want to look again at KJO and either move or upgrade again. Goz
