Stay Classy Brissy

It's a fair point, but this is where common sense needs to be used, why is there an original rule of no tackling in air? For player safety.

Now Manly are without their fullback for almost two months, and Broncos get the chocolates out of it. All because he was tackled in the air, mind you not trying to milk a penalty or gain an unfair advantage he was literally just contesting a ball.

Can understand a rule is a rule but that was a dangerous play by the Brisbane player. And what has annoyed people about the original post is that Brisbane have no respect but to taunt about the situation? Can dare say you wouldn't be happy if Boyd was out for two months over that decision .

Tasteless social media post to be sure. No one should be defending it, and an apology was warranted.

But the whole "common sense" argument is a slippery one. When does common sense enter the equation? A foot off the ground? Half a foot? Would you want the Bunker using their common sense on this? Or the refs?

How far out do wingers jump to try and score tries these days? Vunivalu got pretty high up to score against the Dragons... So if he's x metre's out from the goal line, does that make him untouchable? That could open up a can of worms too.

It's definately an unfortunate injury but the rule shouldn't be changed, we've had one injury come out of it in like, forever.

If the rule was really about player safety then it wouldn't be fair game to tackle an attacking player contesting the ball mid air...just as dangerous situation but completely legal.

They called it a great play in that it led to a try - plenty of game-changing big legal hits that leave players hurt on the ground are celebrated most weekends. Then they immediately apologised to Manly, but don't let that get in the way of hysteria around here...

They aren't taunting anyone. Pretty dumb move tweeting anything about it but PR/publicity merkins aren't usually mensa candidates. I wonder how the sugar water company referenced in the tweet feels about it.
Good point.

Come on.

Taunting is exaclty what they were doing.

Awarding a tackle that was in no way brave, tough or in the spirit of the game with some hastag like #truestrength.

They were being smartarses because the tackle was the most talked about topic of the day.

Tasteless crap.

It's a promotional hashtag they use every week.

To be fair, I'm sick to the eye teeth (the only teeth I have) of players from ALL clubs high fiving, congratulating, and mocking opponents when they make errors etc.

This sort of social media post just reinforces this sort of grubby unsportsmanlike behaviour.

So if they change the rules every prick will just be jumping everywhere on every kick and won't get tackled ha

Just make it like the protecting the kicker rules and cannonball.. "Attacking the legs of a defenseless player in the air". And then apply commonsense to the situation (which is impossible for referees these days).

But when your team tackles a player in the air to save a try, that's OK?

Ugly too. Would definatley make headlines if there was an injury from it.

I actually defended the law as it is earlier, I just think it'd be newsworthy which was the point of our contention.
