It's a fair point, but this is where common sense needs to be used, why is there an original rule of no tackling in air? For player safety.
Now Manly are without their fullback for almost two months, and Broncos get the chocolates out of it. All because he was tackled in the air, mind you not trying to milk a penalty or gain an unfair advantage he was literally just contesting a ball.
Can understand a rule is a rule but that was a dangerous play by the Brisbane player. And what has annoyed people about the original post is that Brisbane have no respect but to taunt about the situation? Can dare say you wouldn't be happy if Boyd was out for two months over that decision .
Tasteless social media post to be sure. No one should be defending it, and an apology was warranted.
But the whole "common sense" argument is a slippery one. When does common sense enter the equation? A foot off the ground? Half a foot? Would you want the Bunker using their common sense on this? Or the refs?
How far out do wingers jump to try and score tries these days? Vunivalu got pretty high up to score against the Dragons... So if he's x metre's out from the goal line, does that make him untouchable? That could open up a can of worms too.
It's definately an unfortunate injury but the rule shouldn't be changed, we've had one injury come out of it in like, forever.
