Will make his debut for St Helens on Friday against Les Catalans --- his only just turned 17 but DA rates him as the best youngster in both the NRL and Super League.

Scored in every single under 18's game that his played in = around 15 games played = close to 30 tries scored, plus he kicks goals.

His a centre btw.

Watch out for him folks.

So why do they need to sign Matt Gidley? If this kid is so good why would you prevent him from playing SL regularly by giving his place to an aging Aussie. This is where the RFL has to see that the quota system needs to be tightened up, when supposedly brilliant young GB players can't get a run.

Matt Gidley will sign for 2 years

Giving Tyrer time to gradually fit into Super League -- 17 is far too early to be a regular first team player.

In 2 years time when the season starts -- he'll still only be 18 nearlly 19.

That's when you give him a shot.

Just think in 4 years ---- Tyrer would of learned off Lyon and Gidley ---not bad.

Karmichael Hunt is already looking Worn out!

I must admit he is very good but imo he is not ready for SL just yet, hopefully he will remain level headed and continue to develop because he is a gifted player. i hope he does get a chance against Catalans, will be interesting to see how he goes

not only did he score in every Academy game last year at 16yo he also scored for England against a strong AIS in both games, and for Lancashire v Yorkshire.
An amazing achievement.

He played 30 minutes and did Ok.

He never received the ball apart from him scooting from dummy half.... made a couple of good tackles.

Exciting times.

Thanks for that, shame DA didn't give him longer knowing the game was won by half time.

No point rushing the young guys too much. He's still on a path to be regular first teamer by age 20 if he's got the goods. Have to bring on home-grown talent the right way if you've got it, and not burn it out.
