Doueihi is not a 5/8.
I like the idea of trying him as a ball playing lock with roving commission. However…he has a SHITLOAD of work to do to raise his defensive technique and effectiveness to the required standard.
Have to disagree here. Douehi is a 5/8 every day of the week, his strength is in his attack a couple wide, he’d be wasted at lock. His biggest problem is trying too hard, he’s a real passionate kid, I got a real footy crush on him atm, he tries so hard to get the team going and as a result holds the ball a bit too long, you’d say in old parlance he’s a hog, but I think it’s more he’s an out and out team player. You can see a real skilful footballer in him just has to be more discerning with his ball playing choices. Has a great boot on him which would be wasted outside the halves. If he were to get a run at Melbourne the kid would become an absolute star. Let’s hope he becomes a star with the Tigers.
With respect to other positions I could see a real benefit if one of our hookers could kick out of dummy half. We just don’t see it, it’s such a valuable skill. It something that one of the Jakes needs to learn before 2022, whoever adds that string will be the regular no.9
Luciano is not a lock and never will be, he needs to improve his defence, but he is such a threat on the edge in attack that he has to stay there. If you take out the occasional brain fart offload and missed tackle you’ve got a gun edge forward there.
I’ve been looking at our edges recently and just think the shit defence is a communication thing, as individuals they don’t miss that many tackles, but they don’t work as a unit, there always one, either not getting back, running out of the line at the wrong time, driving in off the wing too early, moving backwards instead of forward and lagging inside on the slide. They’ve got to look at what’s coming at them and have a tendency to work toward the outside.
