Stephen Kearney: Day One

15/11/2010 6:21:07 PM

New Parramatta Eels Head Coach Stephen Kearney speaks to the media on his first day with the Club after taking New Zealand to victory in the Four Nations.

Kearney arrived at the Club on Monday for his first full, official day of training his new NRL side. The team started with weights while Kearney settled in before he joined them at a wrestling session.

The former Kiwi Test player then addressed the whole team before taking them onto the grass to lead his first field session.

Kearney and trainers Hayden Knowles and Craig Catterick led the boys through skills sessions before finishing with a dip in the pool.

Watch the video to see what Kearney said about his first day at the Club.

He says "again" a lot

again, i just want to say that again, i also noticed that too....that and again about the structures that he wants to put in place lol ;-)

having said that, i didn't mind most of what he said and Morts to be a 6 or 7 definitely.....there goes the thought of him being converted to a hooker
after hearing that, and with no Orford, and assuming all are fit, the safe bet would be have to be the following come Round 1, surely:

1. Hayne
2. Burt
3. Reddy
4. Tahu
5. Grothe
6. Mortimer
7. Robson
8. Poore
9. Keating
10. Moimoi
11. Hindmarsh (c)
12. Smith
13. Horo

14. McGuire
15. Shackleton
16. Mannah
17. Webb

With more mongrel & fitness and include Reni in the mix this can be a GF winning squad.
Robson can move the ball left to right very fast,
Mortimer can add lib off second phases behind a mobile pack moving forward,
We just need to sort out the strategies to implement our kicking game and minimise charge downs and rushed kicks.

Kickers.. Hayne, Burt, Keating, Mortimer, Robson, McGuire & Reni can kick too.

Without a brilliant organising 7 or 6 who can also kick, our strength needs to come from fast play the balls and add lib second phase plays off the back of forwards and backs moving forward fast. The key here are the hookers...

With forwards assisting, Robson and Mortimer should do well in defense, leaving us with a strong defensive squad across the park, even with wingers catching high balls.
Would be great to see Hayne improve in that dept too.

This brings us back to that late season 2009 style of game again but without the disorganisation that occurred late 2010 season.

On paper it looks good, but these players aren't the same that they were a few years back. A few suspects in there...

Well he's been here one day and were still paying $17.00 or 13th favourite ahead of Nth Qld, Kinghts and Sharks to win the comp.

It's nice to be confident but let's not lose sight of the fact that we are crap and haven't played decent footy for a looong time if you exclude Jarryd's purple patch.

Oh, please, Casper. Don`t start that nonsense. We`ve got a pretty mediocre roster. And why the hell does it have to be a 'grand final or bust' attitude every year? What`s wrong with following your team and having them come ninth or tenth? That`s okay.

Lingard, I feel this is not about my post, its about you having an issue with me. It seems you really have it out for me. Doesn't matter what I write you will find something wrong because I wrote it. If I really felt this squad could not make the GF I would say so. Last years squad had all the right ingredients and circumstances to win last years GF, but that was not to be and I have raised my concerns about the many why why why why why's.

The Dragons on paper did not look like a GF squad but they won it this year off the back of one of the greatest coaches of all time who worked out the strengths of each player and used a game plan designed to make sure all players best strengths were used in the best possible way. With great fitness and built in confidence and using an average 7, 6 & 9 (not world class), they easily won the 2010 GF. Look at the culture from top to bottom and we can see why the Dragons won. Look at the Eels culture from top to bottom and we can see why the Eels terribly fell apart, particularly when the pressure was applied in the last 8 weeks or so of the season. Did DA create this crap culture?????? Was he fully supported to get rid of it??????? Just my opinion, remember its just my opinion here..... Why were plans in place to get rid of him early this season??? I was also told about the whispers coming from within the club saying those with the power had it out for him as early as the 5th round or so of the 2009 season. Again, this is just my opinion Lingard!!!!
