STEPHEN BELL RULED OUT
14/09/2006
By Manly Sea Eagles
Manly's State of Origin centre Steve Bell was today ruled out of tomorrow night's sudden death semi final against St.George Illawarra at Aussie Stadium.
Bell has a second metatarsal fracture of the left foot and withdrew from the side after meeting with club doctor Paul Bloomfield at lunch time today.
The injury has troubled Bell for the past two matches and he played with the injury against Newcastle last Friday night.
Coach Des Hasler said Bell had courageously offered to play with the injury.
"The doctor doubted he could get through the game and we aren't prepared to take the risk. It is shocking luck for Belly who has had a great season.
"Hopefully we can beat the Dragons and then the Storm and have Steve back for the grand final" Hasler said.
Hasler said Chris Hicks would now play centre with either Mitch Creary or Paul Stephenson coming into the side on the wing.
