Stevens to miss match with the Cowboys
Sharks prop Jason Stevens will not contest a tripping charge levelled against him in the match with South Sydney and with the early guilty plea will miss just one match. The big front rower will therefore be missing from the Sharks side to take on the North Queensland Cowboys at Toyota Park this Saturday evening.
Also expected to be sidelined will be Sharks five-eighth Greg Bird. Sent from the field for an alleged kneeing incident, Bird has ben summoned to face the judiciary on Wednesday night. Despite a previously unblemished record, Bird is expected to be missing from the Sharks line-up for an extended period.
In some good news for the Sharks, the match with the Cowboys will feature the debut match in Sharks colours for Kiwi international Nigel Vagana. The former Bulldog centre is expected to add both experience as well as extra try-scoring potential to the Sharks backline.
The Sharks are also hoping to see winger Nathan Merritt making a return to the field after overcoming a knee problem. Matthew Rieck has also been given a clean bill of health, having overcome a hamstring strain and will take his place in the side.
