I'm not one for conspiracy theories but you do wonder if the AFL do have undue influences with 9. The NRL Sunday afternoon game that was being shown in Perth has been pulled despite it drawing DOUBLE what the american wrestling they have replaced it with does. Now why would a TV station do that unless there was other motives beyond viewing figures?

i have no doubt that 9 make decisions to please the AFL. i honestly think they must ring them and ask what they should do with their NRL coverage in AFL cities

Not necessarily motives to do with NRL, in my opinion. When you watch the WWE program on 9, you will notice a shirtload of advertising for Foxtel. Considering how in bed the two companies are, its perhaps more a case that Foxtel are trying to lure pro-wrestling fans to subscribe. Remember that WWE has not been carried on a free-to-air for many many years now.

10 years in the comp' and Storm fans can't even see live game of the NRL on FTA. Guess they have to pay for Fox Sports, how convenient...

The refusal to show the game in a decent timeslot last night is criminal in light of #a - The fact the 10.30 coverage was up against the Olympics  and #b - The quality contest the AFL put on last night.

By the time kick off would have been on live coverage, the score in the AFL game would have been 53 to 0 ... People would have turned over in their droves to watch the Storm game.

I was chatting to someone who doesn't like league and lives in Melbourne last night, and he would have watched the game, had it been live.

It's shameful.

I was pissed off last night. Sitting on the couch watching the sh*test AFL game (in terms of a contest) of the season just thinking how many others would be doing the same. While thats happening there is probably one of the games of the season, 1st vs 2nd being played that will only come on once the opening ceremony is in full swing kicks off.

Criminal is the right word.

9 do not want people in other states to watch League

Well of course not, they want the AFL rights back.

But fact is they don't have them and as you keep whinging about, the League needs to stand up to them and force their hand.

I am one for conspiracy theories and I believe that the AFL and the ARU have an old boys network that rugby league doesn't have. Remember aussie rules is played in victorian private schools. Union is in NSW and QLD private schools. Rugby League is played in some catholic and independant schools.

The old boys are in postions of influence and despite that rugby league still does well.
