Storm targets Kelly, Sharks after Brod

ALREADY in the midst of a player shake-up, Parramatta are now in serious peril of losing two of their most promising young stars - Albert Kelly and Broderick Wright. The freakishly talented Kelly is being targeted by the Melbourne Storm to play five-eighth inside his cousin Greg Inglis in Bleak City.
And Wright - a back-rower with plenty of wraps who made his NRL debut this year - is on the verge of joining Cronulla in 2010.
Eels insiders say both teenagers are priority re-signings beyond this year.
It's understood part of the $600,000 saved from Brett Finch's release had been put aside to keep the pair at Parramatta long-term.

I hope DA doesn't fall for the ransom note from players managers, we need to start standing our ground from these parasites.

if it was Hagan, both would be offered 300K each to stay, we've really got to cut that sh*t out.

i remember a while back there were stories about Kelly with quotes from his uncle (or dad or someone) and it gave you the impression he wasn't really looking to stay at parra

I think it was his grandfather and quite frankly, i'm getting rather sick to death of reading or hearing how this kis is targeted by several clubs, just cut the kid loose already and get on with life.

Yeah his Uncle inferred that he was for sale to the highest bidder. We have his mentor from Macksville on the staff now and hopefully that will keep him at Parra.

I spoke with Kelly and a few months back and asked if he was going to stay at Parra and he said "I hope so."

Didn't sound like he wanted to go. Then again big$$$$$ and all the promises from the Origin coach can corupt an young mans mind.

The Storm won't be offering Kelly huge money as they are struggling with cap for next year and the year after. Remember they just resigned Smith and Slater to new contracts and have players like Sika, Inglis, Johnson etc on their books. They would have to release two lower grade players and use that money to sign him. Parra could match any offer. As for the Sharks - why would Brod go there? There is no position in the backrow for him and if he went to the front row he won't survive. He will end up playing NSWRL

Well if Anderson continues to leave Wright out of the side, especially when Oake is in, what would you expect him to do?

Cronulla does seem a wierd choice, unless they want him to play prop.

Not sure about Kelly, do we risk paying overs for potential again? Then again, as he is a 5/8, and they are in short supply, can we afford to let him go?

Same as Tony Williams*. You put a price on him that's affordable based on your assessment of his ability and market value - then stick to it. If he goes then it's out of your control.

* Playing QLD Cup this weekend.

I have known albert for 3-4 years now and he doesn't strike me as the most loyal kid.

I was having a conversation with him 2 years ago and we were talking about his contract situation with parra. At the time he was still contracted for another couple of years and then his exact words were "then it's time for albey to get paid". I then asked if this would be with parra and he said "nah whoever pays me the most".

Albert was placed with a family when moving from kempsey and he was enrolled at Patrician Brothers Blacktown. His attendance was quite poor and despite this Parra continued to let him play. He even left the family who were putting him up and went to stay in "the block" in redfern and Kevin Wise would go and pick him up for school, get him to Parra training and then drop him off back in redfern. This kid is a prime example of what is wrong with this club and why there was friction between Hindmarsh and the younger brigade last year. Our gun juniors are allowed to strut around like superstars and are paid as such and as a result our salary cap management is the worst in the NRL.

People like Kevin Wise and Ben Rogers are too focused on winning junior rep titles rather than developing first graders. Quite often our Junior Rep squads are talked up as if they will produce many future first graders only to produce nothing. I believe the reason for this is because these squads have 2-3 standouts that carry the rest of the squad to good results and as a result the club loses focus on developing all the players in all their squads. Anyone who has seen this years Harold Matt's would know that Jacob Gagan is miles ahead of everyone else and without him, we are left with a side that would finish 4th-6th and yet some of these guys will still be signed to contracts well beyond their abilities.

Now we are being told a good portion of the money that Finch was on is going to be used to re-sign 2 teenagers who can be easily replaced. This is the same thing we have done for a few seasons now and the results show. We were one game away from the grand final in 2007 and we then let Timana Tahu and P.J Marsh go without bringing in replacements.

Look at what the bulldogs have done in 1 off season. They let go of a bunch of players with crap attitudes, kept some very good juniors and went and signed the likes of Kimmorley, Hannant, Ennis, Morris, Stagg, Eastwood etc.

Spoke to him earlier in the year and in regards to signing with Parra and he said "I hope so."

I have to disagree with you regarding Kevin Wise, this guy cares alot about the young players and regularly checks on their welfare and takes great interest in what they do on and off the field.
