Correct, the NRL couldn't organise a media deal that is best for the code if their life depended on it. National live FTA coverage should be but one stipulation in any new TV deal, don't hold your breath!

So what's that 11 years now the Storm has been in the comp and it still can't catch a break when it comes toTV coverage. Just imagine the coverage in Perth or Adelaide if the NRL decided to expand there.

The argument always seems to be expand the competition and it'll make it will result in an increased tv deal.

But why would a broadcaster pay any more for the television rights if they're not going to show games until midnight????

EXACTLY! Which is why I laugh when people say it will increase TV rights by a substantial amount. Sure it will increase rights, there is an extra game to be shown on pay tv HOWEVER expansion into non-league areas isn't the pot of gold people are making it out to be.

Which proved my point that I sent to the Talkin' Sport boys yesterday saying that the NRL just simply bow to the whims of the broadcasters and in this sence GTV-9 Don't particularly care for Rugby League cuz they're obviously AFL people.

You'd be surprised the amount of pull that mob have down there.

If the NRL all of a sudden has a national TV game then the AFL's national free-to-air figures don't appear as strong.

All the facts suggest that showing NRL into Vic and Perth (not sure of Adelaide) produces bigger Tv viewing audiences for ch9. Last year they showed the first 3 or 4 Sunday games live in Perth. They drew around 50,000 viewers, they then dropped it for some rubbish that drew 20,000 viewers. You tell me why Ch9 never put the NRL back on? Same in Vic, it's been shown to draw a decent audience. Why did 7&10 pay so much despite HAVING to show AFL into states with little interest?

NRL on national FTA would be a massive step forward for our game outside NSW and Q'land. Even Stevie Wonder can see that!

i was over in perth for round 1 last year. on friday night i went to the sports bar at the casino. they had 2 big screens. when the nrl was due to start they had a england v new zealand cricket test match on one screen and the nba on the other. i asked them if they could put the league on (was being shown 9.30pm on fox) and they said it would go on at 11.30pm

Can someone please explain something to me.

Are the Fox Sports Channels NATIONAL?

ie, is Super Saturday Rugby League the same in Melbourne as it is in NSW?

I'm going to Melbourne for the international comedy festival and might hang out with friends one night and drink beers and watch footy.

Yeah right. How many people actually watch Community television and how many people watch Rugby League games through Channel 9?

How many people tune into community television to watch discussions on community tv and how many watch the Roast or the Sunday footy show?

Which community channels are showing Super League? Please let me know - I'm desperate to find out.

Channel 9 make decisions on a commercial basis. If NRL rates piss poorly in Melbourne, which it actually does, then what do you expect? They're going to try and air programmes they can charge the most money for when it comes to selling advertising timeslots.

BUT - Channel 9 have done more for Rugby League than any othe broadcaster, with the possible exception of Fox Sports.

Some people just seem to love to knock for the sake of knocking.

Oh really? RL's bad ratings in Melbourne wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that they put it on at stupid o'clock at night, would it?

They had the contract for years because of KP. His last coup was to get the rights for Nine at a pittance.

Since his demise it has gone from bad to abysmal.

What I want to see is Nein being as obnoxious to AwFuL as 7 and 10 are to NRL. The rights owners to televise AFL don't put the rival code in front of their sport, unlike Nein, who would rather beam washed up has been AFL players live into Melbourne than the State of Origin.

And why can they do this? Because Gallop has no spine. If 7 or 10 showed NRL in place of an AFL match, Andrew Demetriou would crucify everyone in sight.

I may hate the sport of AFL, but there is no question on what they care about; their sport.

Go back to Willoughby and join the rest of the f**kwads that don't realise how well Rugby League rates.

What facts? If these 'facts' you've presented were correct than 9 would not have dumped rugby league afternoon broadcasts in Perth at all. If they took it off the air after 4 weeks they must have had a reason for doing so.

I know you want a team in Perth, I'd love to see one too and for league to become a truly national game. However if broadcasters feel that the they have to show the game after midnight to win the timeslot that proves nothing. I mean, you're competing with cheaply bought 80's movies and even home shopping channels at that time. Networks are not going to pay anymore if their respect for rugby league is so low.

It's slightly different with AFL, as Nine had have held the monopoly for so long stealing AFL away from them has resulted in their market ratings share dropping the past couple of years. It's not much, but it makes it easier for 7 and 10 to play catchup. 7 Already overtook Nine in the ratings war last year. I'd like to think when the league rights come up for review 7 and 10 will be equally agressive to obtain the rights and shut them down further. That will depend of their business plans though.
