Strange new Format thoughts

The bottom four in Super League would join the top four in the Championship and play an extra seven fixtures against each other – with the leading four among them then promoted to Super League in 2016.

so what is the structure of the championship? do they have a straight forward home & away system?? do they have have play offs & a grand final?

yet another idea which will see all 3 leagues (super league, championship & champ1) all playing different formats ](*,)

I have went back and forth in my support of the split. Hethrington does make it sound positive in that piece above.

I am still confused though, initially i thought the post split fixture would be home and away again but the article seems to indicate it will be a straight up play off series like the NRL top 8 is that correct spud. Also further confused by the middle split it cant be a playoff series in my mind as how could you configure that to have 4 stay up and 4 go down. While a home and away fixture here to get final table positions will mean an extra 14 games which may involve england internationals putting an unacceptable burden on any involved.

you've confused me there pal..lol...

the way i see it is...

the 12 super league teams play a normal home & away (and magic weekend game) season...then the top 8 team enter the play offs with a old trafford grand final finish..just like normal...

the bottom 4 ESL teams however enter into a 8 team mini comp with the top 4 teams from the championship...the top 4 teams at the end of that mini comp then gain entry into the following season super league...the bottom 4 obviously go into the championship...

im quite liking that actually...

Sorry I was trying to get my thoughts out but didn't do a very good job lol
Yeah it does sound good, fives every game meaning to the end

What happens to the Salary cap. Would seem unfair to have SL at 1.2m and the championship much lower as it is now. Perhaps make the championship cap the same as SL then the cream can rise to the top or those who can afford to really. Although given the recent record of club mismanagement they would most likely go bust chasing it.

Surely the SL and Championship teams don't need to play each other.

I would think they play 4 games each and the top four teams are in the Super League. In the event of teams on the same number of wins they would then playoff directly for the spot.

I would propose that the top two super league teams start on 4 points, the next 2 and top 2 Championship start on 2 points and the other two off scratch. That way teams 3 and 4 in super league have to win more games to make it (it makes the actual season result matter more).

Super league cap is at £1.68m...

the thing is all this has come about because ESL clubs want more money & the RFL want to close the gap between ESL & the championship.....this can easily be done with both parties winning...

the ESL tv deal is worth £26m a year..

cut ESL to 10 and give them £1.75m.....they got their increase...

give 12 championship clubs £700k.....they have their money to bridge the gap...

thats £26m and everyone wins.....but obviously thats far too simple

I don't pretend to know a lot about the SL or the lower tier Championships, but I would love to see sides from Scotland and Ireland included with the extra Welsh and French sides.

right....so the 3x8 split comes in at the end of the regular season...

top8 is the play offs.....as normal

bottom4 & top4.....is the P&R play offs....i
like that.

bottom 8......is kinda like the old divisional
premiership....kinda pointless but it gives the bottom 8 of the championship a end of season day out i suppose

i can live with that....

Is it?

I thought it was two leagues of 12 where you play everyone home and away.

Then you split into 8. In these leagues you play everyone home and away in your league. Then 1v4 and 2v3 and the winners meet in the GF.

For what its worth, i think this idea is even more stupid than the last one.
It just makes the gap between the top and the bottom even bigger, and the SL teams who are struggling are going to get worse as they get more games vs lower teams so fewer crowds etc.

Also the season ticket covers the first 22 games. Then I have to spend on another one, then on the playoffs. Not happening.

the wording of the 3x8 split needs to be worded better in the press cos its confusing people...

the bbc wrote " teams will play each other home & away...then split into 8.."

if they are playing each other home & away....THEN THATS A REGULAR SEASON...lol

then the top play in the play offs as normal...

the bottom4 & top4 do their thing,format tbc...

then the bottom 8 championship clubs do their thing.

thats the simple way i read it...

So the top 8 in Super league don't play 7 more rounds before the playoffs? I'm a bit confused .I honestly feel that 30 games in a season plus two more for semis is too many.Suprleague should focus on quality not quantity in terms of fixtures otherwise the gap between the NRL and SL will only widen.I don't mind the middle 8 part but the bottom 8 fixtures seem a bit pointless if you're in no danger of being relegated.
So spud if Oldham win championship one this season where do they play next season?

i can't see anything about 7 rounds anywhere??

just a home & away plus a magic weekend season..then the split,i heard dave woods on the radio describe it exactly how ive described it.....but ive seen it written differently in the press, twitter etc...

as for oldham...at this point its pointless us winning champ1 with the state of our ploughed field ground, they won't let us go up..champ1 is at last gonna have a decent amount of teams in it for a change so we'll be able to generate a decent income and we can build on that...

the bbc website article as changed from when i first read it...now says the top 8 will play each other again.

thats daft....theres no need to other than to take more money through the gates...

If there are going to be 22 games plus everyone plays each other again (another 7) after the split and then playoffs on top of that it will be a nightmare. That is just too many games. I actually like the concept of the split and getting the Super League clubs to play off against the Championship clubs. In my opinion, the biggest problem with franchising was that it left the lower division clubs to die. It should be good but they need to keep the amount of games played in a season to about 30 per team and that includes Challenge Cup.

It's going to be an absolute trainwreck, as was blatantly obvious from the minute that they announced that they would be 'reviewing' the league structure about 18 months ago.

get rid of the top8 playing other again and its a good format...

top8 straight to play offs

bottom4 v top4 P&R playoffs

bottom 8 divisional cup

would work very well imo
