Today in the Illawarra Tooheys league 1st grade grand final the Thirroul Butchers took on the Dapto canaries, with the Canaries running out victorious.
Funny thing is these would have to be two of the strangest team names going around, and i was wondering if anyone out there had other examples of bizarre rugby league team names to top these two.

By the way the 3rd grade Illawarra comp (Tooheys new cup) was won by the Mt Kembla Lowries (as in Laurikeet)-must have lovely jerseys those blokes.

Would that be West Wallsend Bluebells? (if I'm wrong though I don't deserve to live where I do)

I've heard Wigan teams referred to as the Pie-Eaters:
"Wiganers are sometimes known as ‘Pie Eaters’ but, contrary to popular belief, this has nothing to do with their love of pies. It dates back to a miners’ strike in the 1920’s when Wigan miners were forced back to work before the strike was over. As a result, they were said to have ‘eaten humble pie’ - hence the expression ‘pie eaters’."

i read this thing in league week last year and it says there was a team called Woolongong University Books

They were until they folded a year or two ago. Now they're just 'Wollongong University'.
