The Bulldogs will soon announce Strathfield Car Radios will be their major sponsor for this season and longer.

It's been a long search for a new sponsor by the Bulldogs after Mitsubishi Electric left them after six years on the jersey.

The Bulldogs Board and Management refused to sell the jersey lightly and were prepared to wait for the right company to fit the Bulldogs brand name.

An excellent off-season and some good performances first up made the Bulldogs an attractive proposition for any company to be affiliated with and the Bulldogs led by Todd Greenberg and Dr George Peponis have done an outstanding job cleaning up the Bulldogs image after several seasons of mismanagement on and off the field.

Strathfield Car Radios have stores throughout Australia's five mainland states and the ACT.

Bulldogs Media Release - Strathfield

Thursday, April 09, 2009

The Strathfield Group, Australia’s largest serving car audio retailer, has today signed on as the Bulldogs front of jersey sponsor in a three year, multi-million dollar deal.

Bulldogs Chief Executive Mr Todd Greenberg says the sponsorship is a natural fit for both organisations.

“We’re both in the process of adopting a new way of doing business, they understand what we’re trying to achieve as an organisation and they want to be a part of the journey,” Mr Greenberg said.

“Strathfield is an iconic brand with strong public awareness, they have big plans for the future and we’re delighted that they’ve decided to invest in the Bulldogs.

“Over the past twelve months we’ve been working tirelessly to implement a comprehensive business strategy and we’re starting to see it take shape.

“This sponsorship deal comes at a time when we are also celebrating a 50% growth in membership and with merchandise sales ahead of budget by more than 20%. This positive vibe extends to our junior leagues where we are anticipating increases in junior registration numbers.

“We are now in a great position to move forward with Strathfield and provide a strong return on their investment.”

With the Bulldogs boasting a large and passionate supporter base and an influential connection to the community, Strathfield Group expects the sponsorship to deliver significant increased traffic through its stores.

“The Bulldogs provide us with an excellent opportunity to align our brand with one of the most successful, dynamic and progressive teams in Australian sport,” said Chairman Mr Vaz Hovanessian.

“This sponsorship is part of an aggressive campaign to see Strathfield regain its position as the number one place to shop for car audio and also become a one-stop shop for mobile communications, entertainment devices and home office equipment,” he added.

As a further sign of a strong developing partnership, and in recognition of the Bulldogs ongoing work with Camp Quality, Strathfield Group will relinquish their commercial rights to the top of the back of the jersey and will give this space to Camp Quality for the duration of the 2009 season.

“We respect the way the Bulldogs have embraced the community and their partnership with Camp Quality really resonated with our staff and board members.

“They have sound plans for the future and we look forward to assisting the Club in their partnership with such a wonderful charity organisation.

“We are also particularly impressed with the Bulldogs’ strict and disciplined approach to behavior on and off the field, which is strongly sanctioned by the players.”

The sponsorship deal is effective immediately with players to run out in jerseys with the new Strathfield brand for Monday night’s blockbuster against the Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium.

Strathfield opened its first store in 1980 and in that time have consistently grown to become one of Australia’s most well known retailers.

With over 60 stores across the country the Strathfield Group has grand plans for expansion in the coming years.

NRL vetoes Bulldogs sponsor

http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/lhqn...222978010.html

Brad Walter and Glenn Jackson | April 10, 2009

THE Bulldogs have been told by the NRL that they cannot wear the name of the club's new major sponsor on their jerseys for Monday night's clash with South Sydney - and might have to scrap the $2 million deal altogether.

After believing their nine-month search for a new sponsor had ended when they announced a three-year deal with the Strathfield Group yesterday, the Bulldogs were informed that the arrangement could be in breach of a condition prohibiting clubs from entering into sponsorship agreements with rivals to the NRL's main backer, Telstra, which pays about $12m a season for naming rights to the competition.

Negotiations between the Bulldogs and the Strathfield Group had been ongoing since January but the NRL was not aware of the deal and last night advised the club to put the agreement on hold.

"There is certainly a problem at this point and certainly in the short term, we have told them it shouldn't go ahead," NRL marketing manager Paul Kind said. "There is a process and protocols in place but they haven't been followed and we only became aware of the sponsorship when the Bulldogs called a press conference.

"Therefore no approval had been granted in regards to the sponsorship and we have concerns that the company involved is in competition with Telstra."

Kind said the NRL had "a lot of sympathy" for the Bulldogs and had supported the club's efforts to improve its image but the league also had to protect the interests of Telstra.

There are also concerns about the links between the Strathfield Group and failed retailer Strathfield Car Radio, with chairman Vaz Hovanessian having performed the same role when the company went into administration last year.

"That's something that we want to understand more about because the old company was an Optus re-seller," Kind said. "We've made sure that as we've negotiated new deals we have opened up opportunities for the club but the one category the clubs can't sell into is telecommunications."

Coincidentally, the Bulldogs agreement with Strathfield Group contains a get-out clause insisted upon by the company so it could scrap the deal should players misbehave.

Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg, who has acknowledged to the NRL that correct procedures were not followed before the club signed the deal, said the clause was "standard" over the past four or five seasons. Another club boss said it was "highly unusual" and another said the clauses were implemented after the Coffs Harbour scandal.

It is understood the clause allows the sponsor to pull out of a deal should it suffer "material loss" as a result of player misbehaviour. So while a scandal of the scale of the Coffs Harbour incident would be enough to end the relationship, minor alcohol-related incidents might not be.

Hovanessian laid down the law to Bulldogs players yesterday just minutes after the deal was announced.

"Every player will know that the type of contract we have signed with the Bulldogs requires their commitment to behaviour," he said.
