Strengths
* Jarryd Hayne - undeniably in the upper echelon of players in the NRL. If he can stay fit, the Eels are always a chance at doing something.
* Front row - our front row is not the best in the competition (not by any means), but it is solid enough to get us involved in the ruck (and maybe even come out on top). Tim Mannah is a very good prop, Moimoi (although old now) is good impact, and throw in Lussick, Allgood and Pen Terepo, and we have a good mix.
* Outside backs - again, not the best in the competition, but we have some quality in Willie Tonga and Ken Sio, and Ryan Morgan and Cheyse Blair are young and improving.
* Depth/youngsters - remember these names: Kelepi Tanginoa, Frazer Masinamua, Pauli Pauli, Chad MacGill and Kaysa Pricthard. I tip big things to come for them, and hopefully in the Blue and Gold.
Weaknesses
* Hooker - Matt Keating is solid but lacks any impact, and Nathan Smith is average.
* Back-row - I think in guys like Reni Maitua and Joseph Paulo, we have two good players. But the rest of our back-row, even considering their roles, is average.
* Halves - Chris Sandow can turn it on when he wants to, but he is extremely inconsistent. With Hayne heavily marked these days, we need Sandow to step up.
Unknowns
* Coaching - Ricky Stuart grabs people attention; people hate him or love him. But for the first time in a while Parramatta can say they have a coach with "star" quality about him (in the sense that he's won a Premiership, coached his nation and State). Whether or not this translates onto the field remains to be seen, but Ricky Stuart was certainly the biggest "name" on the coaching free market and so counts as somewhat of a coup.
* Bench - I think we lack spark, and particularly at dummy-half. Moimoi, in my eyes, is going to play off the bench in 2013, so we have some sort of impact there. But we have little to impact at hooker and in the back-row.
* Five-eighth - Luke Kelly should be the incumbent, but Ben Roberts might jag a game or two. Both have pros and cons, but neither is what you could call a brilliant player. Whoever gets the nod must support Sandow, which in and of itself can be a big ask.
