He played today in NSWCUP.

Looks like Melbourne have him on very little see this like eg Dev cintract for 2023 at $80k and theu=y say they will double it.

The boy has speed, steping skills and looks like a winger fullback centre.

Every club tried to sign him up after he brained it for Samoa.. absolute dynamite.. but given there are 4 gun fullbacks in Melbourne... something should give eventually.. one of the journos mentioned if Melbourne do extend Papa, I think there is a clause or something or other than Faalago might look at other options.. but he will be hotly contested if he does go to market.

We are literally trying to sign anything that moves, because we really have no choice now but to attempt to find some slight improvements where we can.. lets be honest if players have any other clubs (even the tigers) they are choosing that option... gives us a very slim pool to recruit from.

We do need 1 or 2 outside backs to cover fullback/centre.... at a minimum to replace Lomax/Feagai1/Feagai2.. ideally they would be x-factor guns.. but our cup back 5 is not good... Sloan is yet to have an injury or be suspended (hes gone close a few times), we will be relying on Lomax to be fit, or were into Feagai territory. Next year we have Allan I assume.. if hes fit and playing well..

Just this -

"lets be honest if players have any other clubs (even the tigers) they are choosing that option"

I'm just so gobsmacked and downhearted to come to the same conclusion now TheRev.

With the signing of Flanno as our head coach came some hope of us being able to grab a few of the good guys especially when he did say that in his eyes the club had the nucleus of being a decent squad of players and showed so much promise in the half dozen or so games under Carr before the end of last season and that with a bit more luck we could have won several of the games. All that was needed was a couple of guys to fill the positions that would make the team much better so AFB, Manu, Dearden, Luki, etc. etc were names tossed around as guys that Flanno would be interested in securing - we get those that we know of RFM, Sele, Leilua, Marschke etc instead who are just at best 3/4 range rather than the top range.

Failure to lure those better ones became public knowledge and the wanting out by Lomax as well has damaged our credibility not to forget Hunt's wanting out as well - we go from being patient to being more puzzled and doubting so many things about this club.

Its no wonder the BigRedV has signed off.

The board have themselves to blame for this mess purely due to the coaching appointments made post Bennett. St George Illawarra's best ever period was when they had a premiership winning coach and when he left replaced him with 2 x rookies and an extremely poor one to turn this club from a benchmark team where betting was stopped mid season because they thought Saints were a shoe in for minor premiers to a club that has been tipped for wooden spoons the last few years.

Flanno has come in way to late. As soon as Madge was let go from the Rabbits he should have been top of the list. They came close to getting Bennett but last minute he signed on with his beloved Broncos.

Some people saying Ryles should have been the next in line after Hook, really? 2 rookies was not enough to turn them off hiring another one? Can people really see Ciraldo, Benji, Fitzy, or Payten winning a comp? If they are not our of a job in 3-5 years I will be surprised. Where as if Des Hasler, Wayne Bennett or Flanno win a comp in 3-5 years I won't be surprised because they know what it takes, they just need the right cattle which takes time. In Saints case will take longer because of the mess it was left in post Bennett.

Fitzy has made 2 finals series and won no games. The last one he lost was against a depleted Chooks with both Suillii and Manu off injured half the game, Tedesco sin binned which is when the scored 1 of the 2 tries and a young Sandon Smith coming on and running the show. If he makes it again due to a soft draw and huge amount of luck playing the top teams when injured (Storm with Hughes and Pap out top example) and they lose their finals games based on the sacking of John Morris, Fitzy will be nervous especially 3 years of failing to win a finals game. As for Payten and Webster they are proving to be 1 season wonders. Ciraldo? Dogs have won 4 games and everyone has them as finals bound. We will see what happens when they start losing a few and the whips get cracking and morale goes to poo again like last season.
