I don't think he's suggesting the cowboys go and do this, hes just bringing up a point that there are no laws protecting referees/umpires/sporting bodies from litigation should something like this happen.

That or he's just getting his name and firm in the paper.

Has a ref been sued for a bad call anywhere, ever? It's not the first bad call a ref has made and it's not even the worst.

Worlds worst lawyer. Unless there was evidence of an actual conspiracy you will be laughed out of court for suing because of a mistake.

If a ref ever gets sued for making a bad call, the days of sport as we know it are over.

He's not just talking about an everyday bad call though. As he mentioned in the article, he's referring to a monumentaly bad decision that costs a club/athlete money through lost ticket and merch revenue etc. an example might be an athlete missing out on prize money they wouldve won if not for this bad decision or if a stuff up like we saw on Saturday cost a team a minor premiership or something.

He's not talking about suing over a poor obstruction interpretation.

It's not even the first time the same mistake has been made in a finals match. In fact it happened in the 1995 grand final. Move on and accept that these things happen. Otherwise you end up like Loudy harping on about it 30+ years after the incident.

A serious question. Considering that if a team is caught with 14 players on the field even for a minute they get two points taken off, what happens if a winning team has 14 players on the field in a final?

And then again, how much worse is one extra player for a minute compared to a try on the 7th tackle?

I wonder how many boxers could sue judges and boxers missing out on $$ due to inept scoring.

The victim / small brother syndrome know no bounds in Queensland...it appears it gets worse the further north you travel.
