The two were actually sacked after they were charged with assault, weren't they?
Nope
andThe action taken by the Broncos follows an allegation of assault made against Seymour in relation to an incident at a Brisbane hotel last week, although no charges have yet been laid against the 21-year-old.
And last but not leastCostigan, 21, was charged with drink-driving on Monday night and fined $5,000 by the Broncos. The fine will be donated to the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety.
Broncos managing director Bruno Cullen said the club's decision to sack Seymour and Costigan was not taken lightly.
He said the club had a strict code of conduct and the pair had paid the price for failing to meet the standards required of them.
"Incidents over the previous few days have brought us to the conclusion that those two (Seymour and Costigan) in particular are not getting the message and it's time for them to move on,'" he said.
"It's time for us to make a statement, time for us to let everyone know who's involved in the club that we're fair dinkum about this and it sends a message to all the players, particularly the young ones that are coming on board."
Broncos football manager Andrew Gee said the long-term interests of the club had to be considered when making the decision.
"The club's bigger than any individual or any result and our number one commitment is to the club," he said. "It's about making all the right decisions for the club and all the people who work here and who put the effort in to making it a great place."
